There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man. ~Winston Churchill. Heaven is high and earth wide. If you ride three feet higher above the ground than other men, you will know what that means. ~Rudolf C. Binding. The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears. ~Arabian Proverb. To ride a horse is to ride the sky. ~ Author Unknown. When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk: he trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it; the basest horn of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes. ~William Shakespeare, Henry V.
Horses have been with u since the beginning of man-kind, those rich, poor, famous, or ordinary have depended on horses even when they didn’t know they were. Horses help farmers plant our crop which are then sent to factories to be processed, then to the grocery store, next our homes, and into our bellies; but for that to work we needed the horse. We use their manure for multch, to help grow our flowers, trees, and plants. Horses ar crimefighters, policemen ride horses in big cities, for police work, horses keep you safe everyday. Horses are used for ranch work to herd cattle, and other large herd animals, without the horses to herd the cattle, there would be no hamburgers. The horse is a great animal that is being used to help society in many ways whether they are getting the credit for the work they do or not they are there and working hardto make our world a better place for us to live in.
For hundreds and thousands of years the horse has been one of the most useful animals. In the beginning of time all horses were wild like today’s zebras they were hunted for their meat and their skins, to make into leather and clothes. Around 4000 B.C the people in central Asia began to tame the horse for farm work and to eat. It wasn’t until the Indo-Europeans that horses were large enough to ride. Around 1200 B.C the people in The Shang Dynasty began to create chariots for the horses to carry the people in. At a point in time they insured the fastest and most productive way for land travel. Horses provided a way for hunters to quickly hunt down their game and carry it home in time for dinner. They were used for solders to ride into battle and defend their country. Horses also used to help settle the old west.
Today horses are not the mainstay of work and transportation as they once were. In most countries, they have been replaced by the 'iron horse' and the 'horseless carriage.' But people still use horses. Today horses are used for mainly pleasure, or farm work. But there are a few horses used for careers. Some of these careers include: ranch jobs, therapy horses, pro riding, police work, and many more.
Therapy jobs for horses are growing more and more popular throughout the world. Therapy is a great experience for both patient and horse. Horse Therapy is used for child and adult and is used for the mentally challenged and those with horrible injuries that threaten paralytic. Therapy can also help those with as a little as problems as a sprained ankle or broken arm or leg. Therapy is for everyone any shape size or problem. Through exercises such as relay races, obstacle courses and ring toss, riders learn right-left discrimination, sequencing, language development and cooperation while enjoying a pleasurable experience that increases self-esteem, concentration and confidence. Physical benefits are realized when riders balance, support and move their body as though they were walking. The benefits for the student include improvement in muscle strength, mobility, body control and balance. Riders also experience improved respiration, circulation and digestion. If there is no physical, mental, or emotional problem with you, you can always volunteer at a therapy barn all across the country or call a horse barn in your area to find a riding program right for you.
Professional riding, much like pro football or baseball, is a career for the horse, its rider, its trainer, and its owner. The horses that make a profession out of their skill which can include: jumping, racing, rodeo, and many more; are great at what they do. Horses that can make a professional career out of their skill know what they’re doing, how to do it and when to do it, even though there are so good at what they do they still need and want the support and love from their rider and/or owner and without it could not do what they do half as well if at all.
Once you learn more about the great horse you learn that there is a great home waiting for them somewhere and that all horses have a home somewhere whether they have found it yet or not. Every horse slaughtered is one life that has missed out on a great horse and an epic journey. Horse Slaughter, yes, in some cases is necessary for the very sick horses that are on deaths row, but horses being slaughtered now are healthy, young, strong horses that still have a long life to live. The slaughter of horses, now, is grotesque, inhumane, and disgusting no animal should ever have to go through what these horses are going through every day. The solution is not much more expensive and gives the old sick horses a good quick death, humane euthanasia, is an easily given shot that easily puts the horse to sleep.
Horses have come a long way from being hunted wild animals, to big beautiful pampered pets, and workers. The horse will continue to grow into our world as a significant sign of beauty, grace, and patience. The Horse in dictionaty term means, the power or capacity to accomplish something. A horse is worth more than riches. ~Spanish Proverb
