1. to keep the tail from getting tangled up when a foal is being born
2. to keep the tail from getting tangled  in the trialer

1. So the foal will not get tangled when it is being born.

1. To protect the tail and dock while in transit.

2. To smooth the top of the tail before a show.

3. As part of grooming process.

4. For covering a mare.

2.to make sure the tail does not get caught when trailering
