I agree with Jackie on this Cyndi.  I've had to change my farriers, more than once, because my mare just didn't like them. Glad things worked out for you.

I'd let your mare keep her new trimmer. She has spoken!

I can't remember which discussion it was where I'd been lamenting about my mare being antsy for her hoof trims, but I wanted to give a little update.

My regular trimmer, who is a high energy, yet lovely, young lady, has been ill and was having trouble getting out here (she drives two hours to get here).  Fan has always been rather fidgety with this trimmer, and I've often wondered if it was due to the trimmer's outgoing personality and high energy...which are opposite of me  :o)

So today I tried a new farrier who lives closer to me and was able to come out on fairly short notice.  Fan absolutely loved him!  She stood still for the entire trim and when he was done he put his arm over her neck and started to rub the off side of her neck and she curled her head around him!  It was beautiful to see.  He is very soft spoken and does his work very fast and does a great job.  I can't believe what a difference I saw today, compared to the behaviour that had been getting worse and worse over the past couple of years.

I'm a very happy camper right now  :o)

Ya, it was really awesum... :) I think it's a sign of trust and affection. :) And I've only had Mowgli since June last year, which is less than a year. :)

Awww, Nicola, that must have been awesome.. I know I just coo when Donoma walks up to me, puts her head on me, and just stands there, eyes closed.. I have no clue what that means (assuming it's affection?) but man, it's so sweet.. I can only imagine how it must've been when he just put his head in your arms and drifted off.. *warm fuzzies*

Well as we learn what they are saying, hopefully we will also learn what to say back. :)  I don't really think there is alot written on that subject....

They are, and thanx! :) I've been involved with horses my whole life (I'm only 13!), but have never grown up with them... :( I have my own horse now, but I think, well, every one says so, that I have a talent when it cums to horses, apparently, also 4 photography and art, so, if I combine them all, I guess I culd becum quite successful in my future life!!! :) Oh, and 2day wen I rode, well, as I was tacking Mowgli up, I was just talking to him and gently rubbing him and I got him to put his head in my arms and fall asleep!!! :) It's so special! First time that's ever happened to me!!! :) And wen I rode after that, he was xcellent!!!!! I think I'll do wat I did 2day just b4 shows or sumthing else where he gets excited, maybe even my normal lesson!!! :)

Hi Nicola, and all others here. Just like to say that I think you are quite observant! If for no other reason than your own safety, and that of your horse; that's a good thing!  Often my horse will "say" something to me that I miss.  However, I'm slowly learning some intricasies of horse body language.  A person around horses will be much better off knowning some of it.  The discussions here are a big help in that direction.

Oh.

Hey, wen I rode today, I jumped, and Mo (my horse) was really good, but we jumped 4 a long time... After the one mini course he started limping badly and I was really worried. So I asked the one girl which leg he was limping on and she said, "ask my mom". So I did. I had 2 trot up to her and, by coincedince, she was sitting by the entrance going back to the stables. So Mo pricked his ears thinking he was going home and, what do u know, he stopped limping!!! :) He si really smart. So I pulled him round and went back to the other horses and was told I must jump again and I said, "no, I think Mo is telling me he had enuf." Mo then looked at me with a grateful look in his eye... :) I guess that was really cool! :) I "heard" him talk to me!!! :)
