The Spanish Riding School (SRS) of Austria has been forced to cancel performances over the next two weekends because almost half of its 73 Lipizzaner horses have been sick.
Thirty of the 73 stallions have developed a cough over the past few weeks, Erwin Klissenbauer, Chief Financial Officer, told the Washington Post. Twenty are currently sick, while ten are better but needing additional rest.
Performance on Sunday, March 21, and the weekend of March 27 to 28 are cancelled. "We apologise for any inconvenience but must emphasize that the health and well-being of our Lipizzaners is our greatest priority," SRS posted on their website.
