Crowds gathered as Colorado, an eight-year-old gelding that was stranded on an island in the Gila River in Arizona, was successfully air lifted by helicopter fback
onto solid ground this morning.
In preparation for the flight, he was sedated, had a hood put on him,
and cotton was stuffed in his ears. Specialized harness was used to lift the horse to safety. Colorado put up no fuss during his brief flight of
about half a mile. Once back on the ground, he was able to stand on his
own and looked in good condition. He is now resting at home with his
owners.
Anonymous donors paid for the helicopter rescue.
