This page is dedicated to watching the mares on Mare Stare, starting with the mini donkeys at Half Ass Acres. But be warned....it is highly addictive.

Heading to bed. Shannon is on watch until 3....then I'll be back. :)
All's quiet and everyone looks comfy.
With a bit of luck, you might get a good night's sleep tonight Heather.
So 1 down, many more to come!
Hopefully they will all have their babies in the coming days! :)
I have come to the conclusion that everyone is going to foal before Chanel. LOL
Hello Chanel,
You've got the spotlight now on Cam 1. Let's see if you can do as well as Blessed Be. I know you can. You'd better hurry up though or Precious will beat you to it.
I just noticed another reason why that mare may have panicked more when she was in trouble. It seems that they are in the business of foaling mares rather than raising them so they will have been strangers to her way of thinking. Yes I do remember some of your mares were a little testy last year too but nothing like that. she was rolling on her back and thrashing about with the foal half delivered. I don't know how it wasn't crushed.she also got up and walked around while she was bearing down and they were pulling. It was really gutsy of them to "stay with the ship".
LOL I'm sorry Betty, I didn't take it that you were criticizing them at all. I just wanted to convey that we have had some struggles with ours as well. And yes, a 1500# horse rolling and thrashing is far more intimidating and dangerous than a 300# mare.
Thank you so much for your kudos on our horses and care. I fear you will eventually see a mare or two of ours that are not as sweet and gentle. We will have a couple maidens on which always like to surprise us when they foal. LOL We hope for the best, but prepare for issues if we can. We have a couple of mares that don't want to be brushed and loved on. You will see us spend less time with them. They are friendly, but just want to be a horse and left alone. Tonja is one of them. We have some that are afraid of the fork...for whatever reason. Then you see the ones that are in now that you can't get to move out of the way. Personalities...gotta love them.
I was referring more to how hard a larger animal that is panicking is to handle and how hard that type of a situation would be for you. I was not trying to imply they did something wrong. If they did I probably wouldn't know. I did mean to compliment you on how much you handle your mares with gentleness and treat each one special. That would contribute to them trusting you more when there is a problem.(hasder to do it you have a large herd. I did not think they would get that foal delivered alive. To their credit they managed it, but they needed a rest in the hay along with the mare when it was all over.
The foal can be seen at Faith Farm foaling.
Not sure which farm Betty, but we have had our share of rodeo deliveries too. We are very hands on because it's easier to try to stop a problem rather than have to fix one after it occurs. That doesn't mean we don't have issues, we just try hard to prevent them.
By the way..rebooting cam computer. Cams will return in a sec...or five.
What is intussusception? I haven't heard of it.
