I'm not sure Stephanie.  She foaled outside and we found her with the foal and the placenta.  The baby has nursed and all seems well.  This is the 2nd sneaky foal she has given us.  I am happy :)  Oh and it's a FILLY!

Heather & Shannon. I am sorry for your loss. Its very upsetting.

But Congrats on Shanza's foal. Is it a filly or colt? How long ago did she foal?

Heather & Shannon, I'm so very sorry that Temptation's little one did'nt make it,

It's devastating to lose a foal. You've had more than your fair share of problems this season & one can only wish that the happiness of the successful deliveries will heal the agonies of the failed. Mother Nature has her reasons & we can only learn from this experience.

Kindest thoughts & very best wishes to you all. x

So very sorry to hear this Heather. I know you and Shannon did everything possible- what a wonderful vet to be able to even get the baby out without damage to Temptation.  Deepest sympathies.

Temptation went into labor around 4:15 am.  She was pushing and not presenting anything.  I went in and found two feet and a nose, but it didn't feel right.  And it was not coming....no progression.  I continued to feel and finally told Shannon that she needed to check.  She went in and found the same positioning I did.  One hind leg forward, one front leg in the correct position and the head and other leg turned.  It was a mess.

Our vet arrived and was able to deliver the colt.  He still had a heartbeat upon delivery but it was very light.  She gave him a shot in the heart while we administrered oxygen and did CPR, but we were too late.

Temptation is on private cam so we can monitor her.  Her colt is with her while she grives.  We will remove the colt in a few hours and she will be back on cam for the remaider of the day.
