Such sad news, so sorry for your loss.  Poor little Pearl, hope she can successfully foal next year.

There is something about the 6th and us....bad bad bad date.  Hate that number..nothing good has come of it that I know of.  Didn't even realize until after the foaling that today is the 6th.

It was a redbag delivery.  It took a bit for her to push the bag out far enough that it could be broken and it was extremely tough.  Everything presented well, but once the foal was out past the chest she just stopped coming.  The filly was good size, and Shannon had a time reaching in to check for hind feet.  She found one foot forward... up and under the belly - normally we would push the foal back in to reposition the foot, but she was past the ribs and there was no pushing her back.

Shannon continued to try to reposition the foot and finally got it back, but she still wasn't coming.  It took a good bit of work to get the filly out and by then she was gone.  We tried oxygen and CPR just in case, but her pupils were fixed and unresponsive.

Very sad day.  Pearl actually loved this one....she would have been a good mom.

Our vet was already in route so she continued on because Pearl's right eye was swollen shut from thrashing on the floor and the walls.  Dr. K stained it and cleaned out the debris.  Nothing looks scratched but we'll be keeping an eye on it and treating with ointment for a few days.

Pearl has been given banamine and is on private cam so we can monitor her.  She still has her filly with her while she grieves.  Dr. K said she's bruised but looks good otherwise and she'll be out to flush her tomorrow or Tuesday.

I am so hoping Precious waits until tomorrow to foal.....  Thank you for your prayers and condolences.

Heather said cams are down for a bit.  They'll be back up later.  They are doing some maintenance right now.

That's my girl...what a smartie.  And came over like "Can I have a cookie now?"  I had no idea all that went on behind our backs.

aha, after a more thorough viewing of that video, i realized it wasn't the humans that left the door open, the cat opened it with her tail when she/he sauntered into the stall. LOL
