Update after Vet Visit:

The vet just left and Kenya is being treated for pneumonia. She is on a newer antibiotic called Excede. With this antibiotic you only have to give 2 intramuscular injections. She received 1 today and will get the last on Saturday. It is wonderful because you don't have to administer 1-2 sometimes 3 injections daily for 7 or 14 days like most antibiotics. The antibiotic will take about 24 hours to kick in and we should see some pretty good improvement with in 3 days

You may have noticed that her breathing is somewhat rapid. This is due in part to 2 separate causes: it is pretty warm here (has been 90 degrees for the past 2 days) and she is very furry. Newborn foals really are not able to regulate their temperatures very well so this heat and all her hair are making it hard for her. (you may remember them clipping Dakota's colt Pablo last year because of this. We are not clipping Kenya though however b/c we don't want to stress her any further, she has been through a lot in her very few days of life) The other reason for the rapid breathing is that she is running a fever which she is receiving banamine for under the vets direction who is keeping a close eye on Kenya from the cams as well. (She calls them Cyber Check-ups LOL!) Cams are wonderful!!

I am assuming the vet is there and this is the reason the cam is off.

We usually take our breeding dates from the last breeding date, Jenny.

Pat, Kenya is sick. She has been spiking a fever the last 2 days. We think she might have some type of infection going on, so the vet is coming out today to check on her.

Hi,
I have 2 minis due beginning of May, 1st time for me and then !!do you all take their due dates from date of 1st covering or the last date of covering. I have been told so many different things, I know it is not an exact science but just wondered where you all get your dates from.

Morning

Well, the vet will be out here later today to do a check up on Dancer's filly, Kenya. So if the cams go down this afternoon that is why.

Princess is testing 5 SQUARES and is ready to go This is actually one time I wish my dates were wrong, she is only 286 days today. I will talk to the vet about it when she gets here today and see if she has any suggestions. Don't forget that she foaled at 288 days last year.

Thanks for watching...
