I think she does look after me! I bred her and broke her in early as I had to sell my other horse due to financial reasons. I started hacking her in the forest by herself at 3 and up until this year, when she took a wild spook when a deer 'flew' over the trail, she's never put a hoof wrong on our solitary rides! She is an absolute sweetie!

Don't they all try to cheat! Yes I love to see the horses that can produce that beautiful lengthening. Mine will never perform that because he is not built that way. However, she sounds like she takes good care of you and that counts for a fortune!

Thanks Mary-Joe. Some horses love to show off that trot naturally and my girl is reluctant. We do all that, but don't get the pace we should. Being lazy she trys to cheat!

Hi Vicki - I am not training at that level but as a scribe ( I can scribe FEI level) I see many remarks from the judges as to "speeding up" and no lengthening. I myself am currently learning how to lengthen.  I understand that success in lengthening comes from the pushing seat, legs on and half halts. Half halt if she is speeding up then use the seat and legs to get her to lengthen.

Hi Mary-Joe: my delphi is showing at level 3 nz, which includes med trot, canter, shoulder in, traverse, walk pirouette, rein back, walk-canter-walk and counter canter serpentines. She has got some reasonable marks, from a good judge- up to 67% but one judge really marks us harshly. However, I also do see what she is saying, cuz delphi is a lazy warmblood- i have 2 of them, and everyone else seems to have hot ones! She prefers to speed up in trot than lengthen. We do changes within the pace and many transitions to get her more underneath.  Part of it is strength im sure. The horse winning right now, locally, is 8 yrs old and huge. Delphi is only 15.3hh.

It is one day winter and one day spring up here. What level are you showing, Vicki?

Gosh! Last posting Dec 15th! And it was from me! What's everyone doing? Hibernating?  It's summer down under and  I need advice on getting med paces out of my 6 yr old. She's not consistently giving and one dressage judge marks us so so harshly!

that would bug me too sherry! i think you need to say something to your instructor. i mean you're getting good value if you spend your time -even some of it, calming down the young horse. i mean i know it is good for them to get used to many different situations, but one hopes that during a lesson you can concentrate on learning and the feel you are looking for, eh.

ok maybe  I am getting old but this bugs me . When I take a lesson there is a very young girl that brings her whole family that is not the problem the younger sibling just runs all over the place and the parents say nothing, I have a young horse and very big, when it starts to get dark and he sees things move outside the indoor arena he spooks  well for the last month he has been doing fine, but last night the little girl was running all over the place and really spooked my horse, I wish people would understand horses are prey animals, what we see they see differently, (a moving person could be a cougar to them) What happened last night could have been avoided if parents would watch their children. (My instructor had to tell them about it for the 20th time)
