A very sad existence after she was finished racing.

rescued from what?

She is just so good. She is very eager to please and so alert. She is always watching me. She is so funny. She is a licker. She likes to eat her gingersnap then lick the stall door. I guess it makes the taste last longer when she licks her stall door later. I don't know but I will yell at her to stop licking and she jerks her head away with a look that says I'll be licking that up later. Her eyes are so full of love as compared with my thoroughbred simply expects me to jump for her. My standardbred is so appreciative. I think I will always own a rescue standardbred. My farm gate will always be open for another one.

They are really nice horses. I am a guardian for the Society and I knew nothing about their disposition before taking up this volunteer position. I was completely impressed with the horses that I had to check on. If I could afford to feed another horse, I would get one.

i have never met a mean one yet.. they are really the most versatile, gentle and forgiving breed i have ever met. I ran the Adoption society for 8 years and those horses put up with alot from people who claimed to know about horses

I just love my Gracie. What a great personality. Gentle like a lamb, trustworthy and careful around me. Are all standardbreds so gentle and calm?

hey, my friend has a rescued standardbred mare. she was trained as a pacer but never got to race cuz she wasnt fast enough, so she was used as a broodmare instead. my friend had worked for a bout 2 years on "Roxy's" canter, when she thought she was confortable at it, she let me take Roxy for a ride. as soon as i asked for a canter she broke into a pace. i wasnt expecting a perfect canter but i wasnt expecting a pace either. but i must say, after she paced a few strides and then cantered i was impressed as to how smooth her pace was! she is now working nicely and steadily in the trot and canter, but every once and a while she suprises us with a very smooth pace.
