Hi everyone, I have a new book out that teaches kids the basics of riding dressage. One of the horses in it is a half Andalusian mare, and the horse in the book is based on a real horse. It is called The Little Red Riding Book and it is a fictional story with lots of educational information. I'm not one for sales pitches, but of you'd like to check it out the website is www.redridingbook.com and it is available through Trafalgar Square (horseandriderbooks.com). Thanks!
Hi all! I am thinking about adding an Andalusian to my stable. How would you describe their character and temperament? Are they an intelligent breed? Are they hot, sensible, lazy, thick skinned, forgiving, or how are they to be described? Thanks!
I am in love with the breed. Someday I want to own one. Any thoughts on how a recreational rider like myself could buy one of these beautiful horses at a "recreational" price. p.s. I am in Canada
Sheri- There are a couple of rescues you might look into. They are kept very discreet. Contact the Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse and inquire. You can net work your way from there.
hi again,
mari, i have been corresponding to S. Cardenas for a year, i asked for pictures of my mares dam and granddam who were from his stud farm.
i have a Vasallo granddaughter, and Granadino is her dad, Quiromancia is her mother .The greatest lines deserve good breeding. I am very happy with my;Pavon baby, see his pedigree.
if you want to have a beautiful foal consider breeding to Ellin Daum's stallion.
she is also on the web or here at barnmice.
Last year Senor Cardenas told me there would be no semen until after WEG.
I need to see if he is as big as Pavon, Ellin's stallion. i saw Fandango del Sol and Santiago at their home and am still shopping around. Will go to see Heroe MAC before next sprping.
would like to talk on the phone sometime
best to you
Brenda
Hello everyone, Cheryl Gibson from south of Guelph, Ontario here. We have had Andalusians (both PRE and SP) for many years. I see Brenda Gordon commented that she has a Vasallo Grandaughter. We have a Vasallo grandson, Alado H, and when I visited Sr Cardenas I saw old Vasallo - our Alado, looks very like him. Also Quiromancia was my favourite mare of the Denhams.. what a gorgeous mare she was. Grandino was a regal and elegant stallion - he had a wonderful presence and was a very spiritually impressive horse. Lucky you, Brenda! I'm not very active on any site like Barnmice (not a facebooker or anything ) so may not be reading the list much but best to you all. Cheryl
Hi Fellow Andalusian Lover! After a lifetime of teaching, training, riding and observing many breeds of horses I decided upon the PRE and Andalusian as my breed of choice. Currently I have a PRE stallion, Pavon whose bloodlines are old and true in Spain. In addition I have a purebred mare, a daughter of Pavon, who is black; a gray S/P mare; a tri-color Andy/Paint gelding and a black going gray Andy/Paint filly. Sheri if you are interested in the breed, try a half- or three-quarter Andalusian for starters. They are usually more reasonable in price, but many of them look almost identical to their Andy parent. All of mine, who are by Pavon, have wonderful temperaments, are eminently trainable, smart and sensitive, but not silly. They will become your best friends!

This is my mob. Andalusian cross is the big white boy. To his left are his half sister and mom. She is a full blooded classic Ute Mountain Mustang. She came in foal with him from Monument Valley, Navajo Nation. The old Spanish horses are still out there from 500 years ago. The team roping craze with the quarter horses did not show up until about 10 years ago. I am blessed with these ponies. I am on a fixed income and love them so.
I have a sweet Azteca filly I need to rehome. She will be 3 this year and is ready to start lightly. Brisa is athletic with beautiful movement yet she has a calm temperment and lots of curiosity. She loves people and would make a wonderful family or kids horse yet has enough potential for an advnaced rider to enjoy! Anything from reining to dressage. She's been in OR at pasture for the last year. A great horse and for low cost. You cannot beat Andalusian crosses (unless of course you can afford a pure bred). I have two others and love them all.
I don't presently own an Andalusian but hope to breed for an Azteca in a couple of years. I have a very athletic, cutting horse bred (Peptoboonsmal) 6 y/o mare that I ride in Western Dressage and I'm presently researching Andalusian bloodlines and am on a learning curve about stallions for when I'm ready to breed her. The history of the Iberian horse is fascinating and I'm a fan of Doma Vaquera. I'm also an artist (sculptor) and did a bronze series called "The Spanish Horse Series". Iberian horses seem to me to be the perfect horse, extremely athletic and beautiful and I've heard they have wonderful temperaments. I live in California. :-)
Welcome Leanne, I wish you well on your pursuit of an Azteca. I know lots of people who just love that cross and I"ve seen some fabulous ones! Good luck and welcome to the list, Cheryl
Hi Leanne! I own a PRE stallion who has produced fabulous Azteca horses. They are everything you are thinking they are. Choose a well bred stallion, preferably PRE, since they are inspected and not allowed to breed unless they possess the classical characteristics that have made the breed what it is. There are lots of really good stallions in CA and surrounding states. Best of luck!
Hi Ellin, thank you for your post. Where are you located? If you have a website I would love to see your stallion. As I said I'm increasing my knowledge base right now and am having fun doing it :-) My mare is unusual for a cutting horse as she's 15.2, has long legs and lovely movement. Needless to say, she didn't make it to competition as a cutter even though she's agile and quick. But, I think breeding her with an Andalusian would produce a really nice foal. I just found out about the Azteca breed a few months ago. Do you have Aztecas as well as Andalusians?
I'm on a southwest suburb of Indianapolis, IN, but we do transport semen! I currently have 3 Aztecas all sired by Pavon. All are out of APHA registered Paint mares. Valiente is a 3 yr old gelding out of a granddaughter of Seven S Flashy Zipper. He will be at least 16.3 hands and is bright chestnut. Both Pluma Decorada de Pavon and Azucena de Pavon are out of my black and white paint mare, Cherokee. Pluma, a gelding, is a 4 yr old tri-color pinto, Azucena is a 2 yr old black going grey filly who will be close to 17 hands when mature. You can see Pavon and Pluma on YouTube. Search for Pavon II at the Hoosier Horse Fair and it should bring up all of my videos, none of which are very good, but they will give you an idea. I also have two purebred mares, one by Pavon and the other, Cali, who is just old enough at 5 to be bred to him this year. I also plan to breed the paint and a mare that is half Andy, half Percheron this year. We'll try selling the foals in utero. Thank you for asking.
Greetings to all Andalusian lovers.i have loved the breed for many years. I have three Andalusians. Our stallion Adonis, A 3 year old colt,Centauro, and a yearling filly, Zaphira. all our horses are very gentle mannered, as my little 2 year old daughter can feed them out of her hand(with supervision of course). We have a lot of fun with our horses, as we go to rodeos, dancing horse competitions, trail riding, and even just grooming them. it is great. well I welcome you to come and take a look at my pictures of them and can't wait to talk horses with you!
I have been doing more research on my horses' bloodlines, which are pure Guardiola. I am so excited to find out that tese bloodlines come from Carthusian and Militar bloodlines. do any of you have anymore info on these bloodlines or know how I can find out more? Let me know thanks.
