A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
I live a full life with my horse, my writing and my art.

First riding lesson: on a Welsh pony named Welshman at a small riding school called Frithmanor Stables in North Finchley, London, England, by an old English military man named John. He was wearing one of those old brown barn coats and a tweed cap. I was nine years old.
First fall: off a large four-year-old liver chestnut mare named Kimberly who decided she didn't want to be lead horse in a change of direction across the diagonal at trot. She bucked like a bronco and dumped me big time at 'X." I'd only been riding a year. First four-foot jump: at a stable in north London (England) riding a former David Broome mount named "Fleur," during a stride counting exercise. I was 18, I think, and it was a thrill of a life time.
First exposure to dressage/classical riding: Photos in a horse book of the Spanish Riding School.
First horse: Thirty-five years after my first riding lesson and many, many schoolies later, I finally became a horse mom. March 17, 2005, Lloyd and I purchased a four-year-old German-bred Hanoverian named Shakespeare (lovingly referred to as "Bear.") I could not have asked for a better first horse. He was definitely worth the wait. I have dressage dreams; he has dreams of eating carrots all day!

Apart from all of that ... I am an EC certified level 1 coach (1997); Bronze level certified trainer in Chris Irwin's methods (2005); Past President of Toronto CADORA (2007-2010), and recipient of an Ontario Equestrian Federation 2008 "People Who Make A Difference" Award.

Past member of Toastmasters International (Towns of York and Northern Lights Advanced Club) and to date have achieved my Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB) and Competent Leader (CL) designations.

Also, runner-up in an international travel writing contest sponsored by British heritage magazine ... REALM. (2010)

When I'm not horsing around I write, create veil paintings, spend time with my dogs and travel. In 2009 I embarked on the journey of Karate and recently achieved my Green belt.

    Hi Dorothy,
Any friend of Linda's is a friend of mine! I hope you don't mind if I send you a friend request!

    Hi Dorothy!
    What a great picture!!
I've got my article almost finished.. very exciting! You said you need it by the first week of March right?
  • Barbara F.

    Hi Dorothy,
Do you have a video of you singing? I would like to put that on the site. I think members would love that. Also, perhaps you would like to start a discussion about Chris Irwin and his methods, as a lot of people (myself included) don't know enough about what he is doing, his philosophy, etc. I would personally find that extremely interesting.
  • Barbara F.

Also, who do you write for?
  • Trisha

Thanks Dorothy! Your pic's are beautiful!

Thanks for your note, Dorothy. Did you happen to see the lunar eclipse last night? I videotaped it and plan to add it as my next video. Quite exciting at about 5x speed but you'll need to take a Gravol first because the camera was hand-held. lol

    Hi,
Did you get my private email message?
  • Anne Gage

Hi, Dorothy ... The next 3 week-ends are quite busy for me. So, I won't be able to get together with you until after Chris' clinic which is Mar 14-16. I haven't forgotten, though. Am hoping to come to the next Cadora dressage & dessert with a couple of friends.
  • Gary Stuart

Hi Dorothy. I'd be happy to supply a comment. Do you want to draft one for me or should I think of one myself? If the latter, any particular topic? Let me know how I can help!
  • Anne Gage

Hi, Dorothy ... Chris is doing a clinic just west of Orangeville Mar 14-16. Take Hwy 9 to Hwy 10. Go north on Hwy 10 to Hockley Rd/5th Sideroad. Turn left (west). Go to 6th Line Amaranth. Turn right. Farm is about 1 km on the west side. Hope to see you there!

    Hi Dorothy!
Good to hear from you. Yes, Linda loves her Robbie Dobbs! Are you still riding Murphy? Thunder Bay is great but cold and wintery, I'll admit. I recently (finally!) bought my first horse, so things are extra great in that regard.
  • Amanda

I just read you wonderfully informative little blurb and answered my Murphy question... congratulations on your not so new horse!!
  • Amanda

I'm very sad to read about Murphy, she was a lovely mare. It really is wonderful to hear your silver-lining and I am so thrilled that you and Diane continue to share the love of one horse. Such a nice story even when it was obviously a very sad one.

    Hi Dorothy,
Just wondering what the deadline is for the September issue.
Also, I'm still pretty certain Christilot is coming near the end of the month, the dates tentatively are July 23-26 or 27th.
Hope all is well with you!
  • Janet B

    Hi Dorothy,
Just wanted to say thank-you to you and all the volunteers for the Chris Irwin clinic!! Everyone did a great job and the evening was very well organized!! Chris was very informative and interesting, with a good sense of humour. I would love to come and listen to him next year! Thanks again for all your hard work! It is very much appreciated!! sincerely, Janet Bone
  • Andrea & Duane Bresee

Hey Dorothy, what's going on with the clinis? Is there going to be a need for overnight stalls or are they filling up, if you have any information about Andrea's riders send thier info so she has an idea on what they are working on or need help with, might save a little time and give her an idea on what the horse and rider are doing.
    Talk soon, Duane
  • Andrea Wetzel

Hi Dorothy, you guys put on another great event last night with Christi!
  • Sonia

Good Afternoon Dorothy! The clinic on Saturday with Christi was fantastic! I always look forward to hearing her speak and all the different horses really put everything into perspective. I was even able to work some of it out with Vincent today which was really exciting. Thanks again for doing it.!

    Sonia

    Hi Dorothy!
Thanks for your nice words about Amigo. I love him. I would like to buy another Hannoverian in a few years when Amigo is too old to ride. Actually he is moving like a five years old stallion:) Greetings from Germany...the heart of Hannoverians
  • Sara Seidman

Hi Dorothy. Still on the injured list! I'm dying for this to finish healing so I can go back to work, but more importantly ride again!

Hopefully will see you at the D&D in February.
