Karen Michuk is the owner/operator of Woodline Equestrian. Before starting Woodline in 2003, Karen had taught riding lessons and summer camps for several years.
Her first few riding experiences started in summer camps at the age of 8. Her interest grew and she started taking regular lessons and by the age of 12 had her own horse name "Bolero" to teach her about horsemanship and the joys of competing. Since then, Karen has shown on many different horses and competed at many levels in both the Hunter and Jumper disciplines. At the age of 14 She purchased a young thoroughbred named "Woodstock". Karen trained Woody from the ground up, eventually starting him in the baby green Hunters and continued up to the 1.20 meter Jumpers. Woody was eventually retired, and became the namesake of her business. He now enjoys his retirement at Woodline.
Coming from an intense dance background as a child, Karen compares the Hunters to ballet. She enjoys the attention to detail, turn out, position, and precision it takes. As well as a firm belief that a strong foundation is the cornerstone to becoming a competent rider.
In 2003 Karen took her first client horse to becoming baby green champion in the Alberta Hunter Horse Circuit.
Jumpers have always been a fascination with Karen as well. She enjoys the technical aspect and the thought process behind planning your track for the jump off. The hard work paid off in 2007 when two of her students worked their way up and won both Champion and Reserve Champion in the beginner Jumper Division.
Karen's patience and practical approach to riding has helped her build a passion for horses into a successful riding school, where students are learning to become competent horsepeople and accomplished riders.
Along with teaching and coaching, She is also curerently training and developing young horses, and aiding clients in the buying and selling of horses.
