A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
I am currently a student of Equine Nutrition through the University of Edinburgh. I am pursuing a degree in Equine Management, and currently assist with the management and upkeep of a small working horse farm. I have a deep love for all things equine, and a very inquisitive mind when it comes to understanding equine behaviour and science. I specialise in western disciplines (mostly reining and cow/ranch work), and I have a very deep-seated appreciation for dressage, as well as the connection this discipline creates with horse and rider. I have been training horses on a freelance basis for the last six years, and look forward to training on a more full-time basis in the near future. I'm fairly sure I'm friendly enough, so drop me a line sometime!

Well We are pulling our horse out of the barn she has been with for the last 4 months,Our mare has lost wieght and we don't like the people at all,She has 2 horses,She doesn't do anything with her's,Her husband feeds them but that's about it,I asked her about insurance and the next thing i know we are not allowed to do anything with our mare,She said that we can't go into the paddocks incase her horses kick or bite us,There very green and will always be that way,They had no problem with us out there  at all until i asked about insurance,We now have found out they have none.house or barn,

Yes I hope i do! I am a student of and an employee for Lois Whittington, I board there in the summers and work there all year round.

I have noticed you are interested in many different topics dealing with horses. Thats wonderful! I hope you realy go far in your interests! Do you have a favorite?

  • Amanda May Southerly

Haha ya she's a blast! We have so much fun. She is full of information and great tips and is always willing to share!

Wow thats great! Working with cattle is realy fun from what i have experianced and seen. I would love to learn more about working with cattle.

Yes Dressage is my greatest interest but i also love the jumping. I would love to learn more about the reining, barrel racing, cutting and roping. I do it for fun sometimes but i'm not exactly sure what i am doing. ha Lois takes reining lessons for fun and gives me lessons on her boyfriends reining horses just to get a kick out of watching me spinn in circles with no idea of how to stop. haha I also realy want to learn more about combined driving.

  • Nicolás Gimbatti

hey ashley! thks for welcoming me! love to be around! see you, N.-
  • Amanda May Southerly

Ya thats always funny to see!

wow i didn't know that, i always thought the combined driving horses were Morgans and saddlebreds. Thats really interesting :D

ya that's a great idea. I'll be very interested in looking into that. Thanx for the idea! :D

  • Amanda May Southerly

Oh my gosh, I think I read that as well! Was it about a throughbred with crippled legs or something? I was thrilled when I found it, a book about horses, named after me! Ha ha.

I'd love to share equine science knowledge with you :) I'm probably won't be going for a year or two though.

  • Willow King

No, I remember that too. I think I liked it pretty well if I can remember... I'm a horse book nut too, I used to read all of the thoroughbred books and the heartland ones as well. It's a shame that there aren't many horsey books geared towards older people though, most of them are for kids.

I'll be going to Colorado state for college, their equine science program is fantastic. Probably not this coming year though, the year after is when I'll start.
