I got my first horse 40 years ago today (7-4-1970, I was 19) after having trail ridden in Chile and Uruguay for four years while in grade school.
I am now disabled with Multiple sclerosis. I still ride due to the kindness of others (human and equine}.
I now ride Forward Seat on the flat, since I am too disabled to jump.
I adore Arabian horses!
>Your horse's sire is from Whippoorwill farm! Back in the sixties I fell in love with >Whippoorwill Duke, of all the horses in the Morgan magazine he was the one I liked
W. Amulet (Bounce) is "old-style" Foundation bred and a grandson of W. Duke. Duke's temperament sure came through in this descendent. For more information check out the website http://foundationmorganhorse.com/def_foundation.asp
Thanks Jackie! I LOVE this site...I've had the best time perusing all the great videos! After searching for horse sites, I have to say, this one is my favorite!
Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking forward to learning more about horses on Barnmice.
We have a large pony really for my daughter, but I want to spend more time with the horses. Your riding story is awesome. I recently took an awesome leadership workshop working with horses. It was amazing. Have a great day!
Hi Jackie, thank you for the welcome, and I found your blog inspiring, educational and a timely reminder for myself! I am 44, and was starting to think recommencing riding was a bit of a pipe dream. I really enjoyed seeing the photos of you on your horse, and it has encouraged me to keep trying. I've been laid up for two weeks with a back injury, but god willing, will be able to do some dressage lessons this summer (I'm in Australia). Your descriptions brought back to me all the things I love about riding, that wondrous connection and synergy between horse and rider. Thanks again, I look forward to reading more. PS I thought it was particularly lovely that your son helps you ride. thanks again, Louise
Thank you, although it's really unfortunate, I think that I've learned some of the most important life lessons through owning her and loving her anyway. A good show partner is replaceable, but special connections can be hard to find!
Hi Jackie, I am glad you like my art . I will be displaying my art with my new line of oil paintings, cubistic horses, at The Sacramento International Horse Show in Sacramento Ca. Nov 1-14 at the Murieta Equestrian Center. Hunters / Grand Prix jumpers. A terrific show!
Hi Jackie, AWESOME, thanks for the wonderful welcome. I do not have sound right now on my puter but tomorrow, I am leaving it at Geek Squad and hoping they can fix the darn thing. I am looking forward to hearing as well as seeing all the wonderful video's on this site. Love reading about your introduction to horses etc.
Robin, Roo (Trakehner x TB gelding, 11 yo, born on my B-day here at my farm, my first and last foal), Homer (aka Schnookums) the donkey, Bodhi my dog and my two cats, Emma and Silly Billy.
These horses were brought over by Cortez and his men durng their search for El Dorado. Some escaped after many harrowing unloads for the ships(they were pushed overboard.) Many times only the strong survived. They lived wild in coastal regions of Mexico for cenuries, not mingling with other breeds. In 1958 some American men discovered these horses and thought they would make ideal youth horses and brought back an number of mares and two stallions. A registry was set up in 1959 and importing continued for 10 years before the registry was closed to outside horses. These beloved, gaited little horses with such big hearts were a favored mount for youth and ladies all over the US for both english and western disciplines. They are used for cutting, reining, barrels, poles, jumping, ect. They excel at everything they do. We have been raising these horses since 1989 when a pair of bred mares were gifted to my boyfriend and his brother. Senorita was Scotts horse and he loved her. She delivered Rosalita in 1990 and was bred back to the same stallion for a 1991 colt. She had two previous get from the same stallion and those mares were also purchased. That particular pairing produced some of the best western skilled horses. Miss Lightening was the oldest and had points in reining, Rosalita was trained for barrels and turned 17 seconds without effort. her baby brother was never saddle trained. Lady Shy was the second oldest and excelled at barrels and halter. While we miss Senorita today, she was 26 when she passed away. These horses are long lived. Miss Lightening is now 28 and our easiest keeper. Check out the pics on my profile.
Thank you Jackie! For your initial comment and for this one. I am very passionate about the classical art of dressage and having watched our "best" Canadians at the Royal Winter Fair a few weeks ago....then comparing what we've been watching in the highest levels...to Reiner Klimke's photographs....I couldn't keep myself from writing.
Thank you for the welcome Jackie. I have read your profile and would bet you are quite an inspiration to be around.
I was wondering if you had been in Canada because I have a cousin through marriage (whom I havent met) Jackie Cochran and....her Mother-in-law, my blood aunt, raised purebred Arabians for many years in the 60's, 70's 80's, in her 70's she switched to miniature horses.
Happy to be your Barnmice friend! I have been fortunate so far with my M.S. to not be too disabled, on horseback anyway~I seem to have better balance there than on the ground! I look forward to reading all of your updates on your riding. : ) I am leasing an OTTB right now while I save for my "Dream Horse".
Hi! Sorry I thought I have answered ... . I am new here and it seems that I have to learn much moore about Barnmic! The exterieur should be equal to the Friesian. But they have a little bit of the "hot" Arabian-Blood. I like these horses very much. As I have worked before only with pure breed Friesians I really enjoy these horses. But I like the look of a Friesian ....

Yup they were the breed of choice back then. I loved them also but no way could afford one.
Now I am tall and the Arabs in my area are considered big if they reach 15.1 with most of them being 14.2- 15h so I feel too big on one.
