65 plus rider who still ikes to ride the trails and do a bit of dressage out on the trails. Pekoe is going on 15 and I need to start another group for g5 and over LOL
That is not a problem at all Gail, I don't blame him for not being all that excited about sitting there waiting for us to have a good time and then come back and tell him all the good things that he missed while waiting...lol I think that would be right up there with mental cruelty or something. lol Yes by all means get your driving gloves on and get'er done. You certainly will notice a difference once you get the hang of hauling, and can go and come as you please. We can do this next year or when ever. It is great that you have the trails at the barn to be able to go out there and enjoy them when ever. I got on yesterday and took him in the back fifty, and had him in his rack then on into the neighbors stubble field. The flies were swarming all over us by that time, I don't know why but they were driving both of us crazy. He wanted to bust loose on our way home but did what I asked. I did not stay out long, he was trying so hard to be good and I was not having a good time fighting off flies and trying to keep him from going stupid. This morning he was just beside himself. I turn all three of them out together for the day once meal time is overwith because I have to give the old guy time to eat. I was in the barn for a while (working in the hay again what else) and I heard all of these thundering hooves. I am wondering what the heck would be getting them all worked up. I can't see anything through the cracks of the big roll door. I go into the part of the barn that they are in...there are two horses in the barn...this is one horse that is making all of this noise...I see him as he runs past the open door. I go out to see if I can see a bear, or cougar or something that would cause a horse to be so goofy...nothing, just him, running, jumping, farting, stopping, sliding looking around and off he goes again. I guess the rain and cooler temps just made him feel so good. lol What a character.
Hi Gail - Yes, I also board where Marianne went - along with Rea, Pat, Sonya
and Jan - all of them were at PV when I was. We have a lovely board
situation with the York forest right across the street from the barn, many,
many acres of riding trails, long flat straightaways just perfect for
gaiting (McCowan north of the Vivian Sideroad). The Bike and Beast will be
held on Sunday, Sept 27 in the Durham Forest (7th Conc & Durham 21) -
registration at 10:00 am - riders go out at 11:00 am - over by 1:00-1:30 pm
with a BBQ to follow. We set up teams of bike riders with a horse rider -
each rider goes to the forest (separately if the horse doesn't want to go
with a bike) - each person collects 3 ribbons from the forest and returns -
the team will have 6 ribbons which they trade for cards - the best poker
hand wins a prize (there will hopefully be prizes for everyone!) - you can
purchase cards also to make a better hand - all proceeds will be going to
Windreach Farms where they do therapeutic riding. We ask that you either
donate $20 yourself to participate or get sponsors to sign up on your
behalf - we will have sheets available shortly. The person with the
greatest $$ value of sponsorship will also win a prize. Hope this helps -
keep in touch - where will you be boarding in the winter? Marg

Hi - yes, we will have an "on the spot" - as a matter of fact, I have to order that today - know what you mean - we had to petition at our farm to get an outhouse as the barn is practically all women! Yes - you can just show up - no problem. I am also a fair weather rider - hope to see you there. I can join the over 60's as I will hit that golden number in November!! I will do that shortly - Happy Trails, this looks like a good month weather-wise - Marg
Hi Gail - It's not a great weekend for me -I am caring for my father who can't be left alone from Sat to Sunday morning, I wll, I hope be at the barn
Saturdsay morning early - but it will be a quick ride because I eed to get to Aurora by 1100 am. I will be out there by 1030 - 1100 on Sunday - not much time for a hack. I love Pekoe what agreat personality he has. Spud needs to build up strength walk , trot - he has a sore right hip that is slowly improving wiith walk trot work - I did canter him up a hill last week because I couldn't resist, but lots of hill walking and a little trot is his speed right now. Willl be there for the communicator.
LOL I had Donna hold him for me - then he was as good as gold - he doesn't like that outdoor mounting block when there is stuff happening - can't see what is going on and he is a nosy nosy boy. He was very well behaved - we are working on rounding. Then went around paddocks to do the hill, he was very good- and very brave - so he had lots of praise for being a brave boy. I am going to try to be there early this Saturday, around 9:30, so if you are around i would love to ake it a ride up and down the hills.
I can do either one, and I am a very easy going person. I was thinking be there by nine thirty - but f you want to ride nine thirty I can be there earler. Yes Spud was very muddy too yesterday - I didn't envy your job cleaning up Pekoe.
Hi Chris: I emailed Denise with an idea this morning. You know that Lesley is working on getting the horses into groups of 2 or 3 for the winter so they can all be moved closer to the barn. Easier to manage for the winter etc. You mentioned that Pekoe did not really like Whisky and I agree. Pekoe might make a good addition to your group with Lad and Spud. Pekoe is mellow now and has also been out with Lad in the past. I think it would work but you and Denise have to be on side. Let me know what you think. They got along well yesterday and I think Lesley would be ok with it. Think I will stay home today. Cheers! Gail.
Hi Gail - no haven't been out yet - Spud has sore hip and stifle on right-he probably slipped and exacerbated his already tender hip. I'm riding but walk, trot to the left only, no lateral work, Had good lesson tonight walk little trot lots of softening down. Lesley will use the lumen on him next week, and in meantime I will try a little more intense Therapeutic Touch
Yes I put Baker sheet on last night it's getti ng a little smal for him! I think this thing with the stifle and hip will clear up pretty quickly, I just have to keep him moving. Lord knows I have enough work to do with him so will work on the ground, and at a walk in the saddle. I am still very pleased with his progress (and mine). Lesley is amazing. Spud is listening.
Jo was taking pictures of Mia last night as Lesle rode her - she is a very pretty little horse. I know Jo is very distressed at selling her, but it reallyis for the best. I hope she sells quickly for Jo's sake. She is one of the sweetest human beings I have ever met. Have a good ride today.
Hey Gail - I don't know if you are available I am off on Thursday and planning to be at the barn during the day sometime for some fun.Let me know if you have time or are interested.
Hi Chris: I now was able to book a hair cut for 10 tomorrow so that does the morning. I think I should say that I will try and be there for 2 but if I don't make it, just means that I got jammed up with other things. Will try though. Likely an inside day. Gail.
Hi Chris: Did not get much sleep last night so I think I will stay home today. Also see that the proofs have started to come in for the paper. Should work on them also. Cheers! Gail.
Just Denise and I went out - it was lovely. I saw Lesley riding Pekoe on Monday night - what a lovely lovely horse . Sunday is supposed to be beautiful!!!!
Went to hospital last night because I couldn't breathe - on steroids now, and Tamiflu because I am high risk. Had chest x ray and it was OK. Now just have to ride it out.. Have a bottle of rum to help me sleep at night - Captain Morgan's Special Spiced rum - Say hello to Spud for me and Denise and Lad and Pekoe , and Donna and whoever else is there, 2 or 4 legs. Have a good ride!
Very tired, and coughing up a lung, but improving. I will likely be off work for another 2 - 3 days. And yes Spud will be a looney - but I will let him loose in arena for a long run before i attempt anything on him. going to see my own physician tommorrow to see about extending and weaning the steroids off slowly. I rode him on Wednesday and he was a very very good boy then. Have a good day. it sounds like they all have the wind up!
Oh yes I am sooooo ready to ride again!!!! I will be up late morning to see how many yayas he has to get rid of before I ride, and to ride in arena for a bit - then maybe we can go out. say 1300? I saw him on Tuesday - it damn near killed me to get up there - he was looking fat and spunky. I sent Denise an e-mail about Sunnyvale
Your are so right Gail, and I have been just as guilty as anyhone of not dropping in just to say hi...I am now down in Florida and will be till April sometime. I met one of the Barnmice memebers yesterday at the local wrangler camp not far from me. It was great just getting a chance to say hello and put a face on the messages that we see posted here and there. I am busy riding the next door neighbors new horse, in fact I just got off of him. He is a bit unsure of himself once he gets away from home and is out on his own, always wants to head home which is natural. I try to keep him occupied with stopping, turning, going the other direction for a time, turning slowly to home, keeping at a walk, and going off the straight and narrow. He is a bit miffed at me for doing so but not dirty about his way of getting the message across to the dumbell in the saddle. lol I guess he thinks I am lost, going every whichway but home. lol
Please let me explain why it took so long to get back to your mail/request for friend.
We had a baby Sept 6, had an arena built in Aug, but started getting ready for in in April, then the rains came!
We built new stalls, but first had to go purchase the sawmill lumber, run it through the planer, drill the holes and so board by board we went... slowly.
My husband- my hero- is a retired shrink, not a carpenter, well he wasn't but he'll pass for one now, built stalls and walls and doors,
I love these creatures that give us so much pleasure, take all our money and time and give me the best reason to get up early and go to the barn before bedtime, for one last bit of hay.
We have been working for 8+ years to get to where we are, and still have more to do.
I will talk with you again, right now I'm going riding- in my new arena. Can
t believe it yet!
Oh dear - I hate that so many can't keep their horses. I was up tuesday, the snow on Wednesday stopped me - I hate black ice. Worked till 7:30 last night, and tonight I am washng wood floor in living room and getting it clean and decorated for Xmas. Will be up mid afternoon tomorrow likely not till 2 or 3 pm,have to shop in am Will be wearing long johns !
I also was involved with Pony Club with Sue. I worked at a farm in Uxbridge that you were thinking of moving to. It was called Valley View. I also returned to riding a couple of years ago. I own a Percheron cross who I bought from RCRA. I love her dearly. I also hate the winter, Ebony gets sick of the arena. Talk to you soon.
Lol Gail, I answered your last comment to me, but silly me, I don't know how I did it. but I sent it to myself...Hellllllooooo lol so if you want to see my comment go to my page and read it...lol I am afraid to screw something else up...I had computer probs last night,, and to the tune of $60+ tax I got it fixed over the phone, the nice young man on the phone put me through the steps and I did the work as I am on dial up....it worked...pretty soon I will have to hang out a shingle or something. It was worth it, I did not have to take my chances going into town, leaving the machine there and hoping that it would be fixed in a week or so.
Hi - nice photos - I just updated my profile pic with my horse Rio - he is a Spotted National Saddlehorse - cream and champagne pinto - my absolute love of my life - he is sooooooo nice.
I see in a previous posting that you had rescued him. He looks like a sweet fellow. When do you ride during the summer ie weekdays or weekends. I have not accomplished my quest of trailering myself and the horse to meet another human and horse to ride the Durham Forest. I have a Bockmann trailer and vehicle that will haul but it has been used only once in a year and a half. Gail.
hey Gail I hope to be up tommorrow - Spud has rim pads on now - no snowballs in his feet yesterday! Spent from 9-6 trying to get my dad settled. It was like leaving your kid at boarding school -very distressing.
I have not been through settling an older person in a new environment. I was home all week working and have not been out the door since last sunday. Have great hopes about escaping this weekend. Gail.
Gail,
You mentioned you are hauling, on your own now. If you make it to Indiana I'll put you up here, just outside of Indianapolis. You can email me on my personal email if you are interested. bcoryell@voyager.net

Hi Gail -- wow, very close indeed. I'm on Sideline 2 just south of Durham 5/Concession 9 (the Claremont/Myrtle/Raglan road). Just west of LakeRidge and Ashburn Road. Are Pascoe's not there anymore? I haven't seen them in some time, but they took great care of Toddy when I spent that year in Bermuda back in '95. Jason was going to bring him up to Intermediate, but it never quite came together! (Toddy, btw, is still going strong at 27, though he is fully retired now.)
We should meet up for lunch sometime in Port Perry! Piano Cafe?
