    Hi Frances

While I haven't driven competitively in years, I drove in Ontario with COPDA and I did one Combined Driving Event with OCDA, around the Guelph area (within 2hrs of). Currently I'm helping Manoravon Farms get some young New Forest Ponies driving so they can get back out and compete.

Last summer when I hooked the Clyde, I think it was the first time I had done more than ground driving for about 7 years. While I drive competently enough I find that I much prefer to be on top of a horse than behind one.

    Hello again,
I live about 30 km west of Stratford on 50 acres. I grew up in a big city and enjoy living in the country every day. Our Gelding was trained for driving. We never got around to buy a carriage, so he enjoys hunter and some dressage. He doesn't mind the trail either. Very laid back fellow. I love him very much. The mare is somewhat different. She can hear a mosquito coughing. But it's all good. She finds out very quickly that there is nothing to get worried about. I want to bring her up in Dressage. I believe that is her calling.

Thank you for the invit. I travel close to your area at least 3 times per year. My son lives in Petawawa. I'd love to visit. Same to you. If you are in our area, stop in for a coffee and some "horse chat:)". Have a wonderful day.

Hi Frances. I am still getting a feel for navigating this site. Good luck with the jam!

Thank you Frances for that offer. We are NW of TO by an hour and a bit; I am trying to find somewhere within an hour's drive, as I am pretty antsy of sending my mare away anywhere, lol, and want to be able to visit a few times per week. So your facility may be a bit out of reach - where exactly are you located?
I have been considering sending her to Jeff Kohler at Relhok near Barrie - it is just about 45 minutes each way for me, and I was quite impressed with their facility and the way Jeff's animals responded to him. However, nothing is firm yet, I'm not sure if he'll have any openings this fall/winter when I would like to send her.

Ooooh, although I just noticed you have Canadians???? Do you still have the one for sale??? I have been lusting after a Canadian for years and the other option to breaking my mare to drive is buying a second horse that is already well broke to drive.
  • Jennifer Moore

Ah, ok then. I misunderstood. Well, thank you for the invitation - if I ever get out that way I will have to give you a heads-up and drop by!.
Good luck finding the perfect home for your mare, too!

Wonderful pics, Frances!!!!  Thanks for sharing - makes me even more excited to get my two going.  That is  a lovely pair you have there.  I hope a good time was had by all! :-)

Thanks, Frances!  Oh, don't worry, I've looked at the vehicles on the Drive Ontario site LOTS this past week, lol.  I got my harness from Doug Lillycrop at SummitView Carriage - I think he's with Tri-County Carriage Association.  Anyhow, I ended up going synthetic, but it's quite a decent synthetic - the Zilco Elite harness, with the Empathy breastcollar.  He gave me the catalog for Bird-In-Hand while I was there; I'm looking at ordering one of their two-wheeled marathon carts to start with.  Had a great time at his place, looking at all the vehicles *he* has - he's got a lovely Brewster carriage there for sale....Drool. ;-)

Thanks Frances - the cutter was a Christmas pressie from my hubby, along with the horse.  And the harness.  LOL.  I got the cutter from a fellow in Quebec who refurbishes old vehicles and sells them - Ken Townsend of Townsend Carriages.  He travels through Ontario quite often on business, so he delivered it too. :-)

Yeah, I thought the shafts looked high too - I'll play with that.  I can let down the loops that hold them....

Honest, we took off a gazillion tags yesterday - evidently I missed a couple, lol.  And Bender's mane needs to be tidied up, etc.  But it was SO much fun when he went trotting along with us zipping along behind.  He seems to quite enjoy pulling us along. I think in the summer when his summer coat coimes in after 6 months of good feed and mineral, he'll be quite shiny and handsome.  Need to find a summer vehicle now.....

    Hi Frances.

    Beautiful pictures!!!

I would love to meet you and your Canadians.  You are so close to me. Are you around in the daytime?

My little one really gives me such joy, and we've only known each other for two months! She calls to me when she sees me, and it's not just because I am the food lady. She follows us around and hangs out for pets. What a suck.

She learns her lessons well, and I have had a PNH instructor come out and give me pointers to help her along. He is so impressed on how smart and easy-going she is.  My farrier has commented that she is the best weanling he has had to trim all year! (Cool). My vet is also impressed on what a big girl she is about her vacs.

I was always wondering what had happened to the breed show at Orono. I came out to visit the show when it was still going in 2005 and there were a lot of entries from what I can remember.....

There are so many Canadian owners listed with CLRC, but it would be nice to have them start coming out to all kinds of opportunities in Ontario to show off their horses. I may not be a breeder, but the opportunity to show my girl and what she can do would be awesome.

I would love to bring some coffee or tea, and meet you guys some time.  Maybe later this week?  I have been nervous approaching people because there seem to be some bad blood between associations and I really don't want to blindly step on toes. Just want to help out.  :)

Hi Frances. Thanks you so much for inviting me over to show me your beautiful horses, and. It was really great meeting you and Tim. Some day, you folks can come and visit our furry little crew. My turn to put the coffee on.  ;)

thanks for the welcome, Frances! I absolutely LOVE the pictures of your horses driving through the snow! Talk about a dream for someone stuck in the southern U.S.! We see very little snow here, and only one Canadian Horse-mine-lol. I have been blessed by Bismark, I came by him in such an unusual way, he really adopted me!
