I thought the lastest video you posted on the Arab Horse Magician was very good and interesting. I try to keep an open mind and I saw the entire video. Good work!

I think that's a great idea, Michael, but I don't want to offend anyone and I'd also hate to be seen as anti-women in any way. So, let us think about it and decide how to position such a group.
One reason for doing it would be to get an idea of just how many of us there are. Once in a while I get frustrated being the only male rider at the barn where I board my horse and, in fact, being the only male rider I know. Sure, there's a few guys around here who ride, but they are exclusively western and much as I admire what they do, my only personal riding experience and interest centres around the "English" disciplines. I tend to be regarded as a bit of a freak, or elitist or effeminate and I don't consider myself any of those things.
On a different note, I really enjoy your videos. How do you have the time to do this and where do you acquire them? The equestrian statues one is so enjoyable, especially since I have an art background, and the Oman Cavalry is amazing.
I got my love of horses from my father, who was in the cavalry with the British army in India. He courted my mother on horseback - literally rode up to the back door of the house, and later gave me my first riding lessons.

So, you're retired? That explains how you have the time. I hope you're not retired from riding.
I'm also retired - from a thirty odd year career in teaching, most of it at the university and community college level. I've taught in 3 countries - Canada, the US and the UK.
I spend about half of each day at the barn and then take a nap lol. Life is sweet.

Does "ride to music" mean freestyle dressage, Michael?

Hi Michael. Thanks for the explanation. Do you do this at shows, by invitation, or in workshops that you organize?
I certainly relate to the concept. I only ride outdoors, so playing music is not much of an option, but I do sing to my horse and I was also taught to count to establish the pace, which in itself becomes a kind of sing-song mantra. It has made a huge difference in helping my horse learn to trot at a more leisurely speed and also in balancing his canter. I can see where suitable music would be very beneficial.

I meant to mention that I attend as many local dressage competitions as I can and love watching the kur, although the choice of music is sometimes regrettable. But I'm pretty conservative when it comes to music. Luckily for me, there's a very active chapter of the Canadian Dressage Riders and Owners Association Dressage in this area and most of the events are at farms that are only 15 minutes drive from my house.
It wasn't so long ago that all the horse activity here was western - barrel racing and the like. I try to go to those shows, too, because I really enjoy the atmosphere and like watching the events even though I have no interest in participating.

I love all the videos that you post! Where in the "heck" do you find them all???

Can you verify that the video of the Amish horses is true, that it was filmed in PA? I just saw someone else claiming that it was taken by him and that it was filmed in a smaller town near Ottawa CAN.
