I operate out of Caydon Farm in Sharon, Ontario, which my husband Norris Weldon and Catherine Cays own. Full time Certified Coach 2 (1989) with Coach 3 Theory in the disciplines of dressage (National) and hunters (Trillium). I am also a Course Conductor/Examiner (1990) for Equine Canada. I have been providing coaching services to the Metro Toronto Police Mounted Unit for the past 14 years. I give clinics in all aspects of riding, stable management, theory, teaching and coaching. I also judge when time permits.
Our barn, Caydon Farm has a relaxed, friendly 'family' type atmosphere. We are a barn where EVERYONE gets along with one another, young and older, no matter WHAT discipline you ride! Everyone is respectful of each others disciplines ands supports each other at the shows.
We have a lot of 'mother/daughter' lessons and even groups of mothers and daughters that ride together in lessons and even share horses together.
I think setting a rule at your own barn and being upfront with potential new boarders that 'you have to get along with everyone or you may be asked to leave' is a good policy to have and I don't know why more barns don't do it? It lets everyone know that good manners are expected, snobbery is not tolerated and yes, there are repercussions if trouble is caused. It only takes one bad apple to upset a few of your good boarders to make life miserable for all. Is it worth it? I think not!
Hi Linda,
My husband (Gary Stuart) has been reading all you comments and watching your videos and has decided you are a genius!!
Always nice to get compliments from strange men!
Hi Linda, Frits is a Dutch Import. Loves to passage --he is older but young at heart. We have 3 retirees at home --you may remember Luma, Lazare and Lohringrin who is 25 this year. Visited many countries last year judging mainly in S. America-S. Africa. L
Florida season is going well; I have my most promising eventer ever, a lovely 5 yr old holsteiner/TB...and today my dressage horse arrives from England. Yes, dressage. Whatever next!
Hi Linda, please contribute any ideas, blogs, etc. that come to mind. I am always very interested in your input!
Also, feel free to ask questions of any of our Healthy Rider specialists. In fact, you may have students/friends who you think might benefit from a conversation with Karen, Elizabeth or Claire. All will continue to add videos, but will also answer specific member questions and are available to help with specific problems/challenges. That opportunity for members is one of the special benefits of belonging to our community and I hope that many members will get to know and learn from these three remarkable women.
Hi Linda,
Thank you for remembering Duffy. He was a great horse. Yes, I did board at Amberwood way back when. Made many good friends there who I'm still happy to be friends with. They were really good times!!
Hi Linda. My portrait makes me looks like a few other people. We are just a shadow of ourselves! I too remember Mr. McDuff. That was his full name wasn't it? I was at Amberwood from about 1976 -7, or so.
Wonder where Natasha Leeson is now? Anyway I like your pic of the cantering grey horse.
Hi Linda - I'm in London so this message is being relayed through my husband. If you go to the Widget's page there should be a button that says "copy". If you click on it, either some code will show up for you to select and copy (Ctrl C) and go back to your box and in the right spot paste it with "Ctrl V". If no code shows up, just click on the copy button and then in your box paste it with "Ctrl V". If that doesn't work, I'll be home on Wed, no problem at all.
P.S.: remember to set the details to Toronto before you copy it.
Hi there, I took your clinic on 27 Apr and had a great time. I just wanted to thank you again. I was on the dark thoroughbred and was with my coach Jen.
Hi Linda,
As I watch the Barnmice numbers grow past the 1000 member mark, I think back to those first people who took a chance on a fledgling site and all I can say is that I will forever be grateful for your early enthusiasm and kind support. - B.
Hi Linda
When I come on Tuesday for my lesson, I wanted to talk to you about the OEF Rider certification, I know I need to do that before the coaching. Is that something that you'd be able to help me with?
Yes, I can prepare you for whatever test you would like to try for and then Paul can probably test you. You can get the info from the OEF regarding the tests and then we can talk on Tuesday!
Hi Linda,
thank you for your response to my question. I have recently started using some trot poles and canter poles and she is doing single jumps quite well. I think that you are right in thinking that I close my body off when approaching the jump and that I need to concentrate on relaxing and breathing. She has been doing well the last couple of days in our jumping while doing single jumps but I have not tried doing any courses as I am trying to make it really boring and easy for her. I appreciate the advice you gave!
thanks again
I am not sure! I do get to meet alot of people with my job. I work for Sharpe Farm Supplies. Other than that, I can't say for sure!! Your name does sound familiar to me as well.
Hi Linda,
What type of work do you do with the police? Does it include the "bombproofing" of the horse(s) or just riding instruction ? It would be interesting to watch the process. I have ridden the Metro police horses in the past (a fair while ago) in Toronto. They are very cool..
