Sherry, I'm happy for you that you have a horse again in your life. It's so good for you that your husband is supporting the decision. When I was 16 I saved enough money from my little jobs to buy a horse & my friends dad let me keep him at their farm as long as I bought the food. I paid them a small amount to let them know I appreciated it. This little QH mare had more fun with me. Very testy & I had no one to help & no clue. I had her for two years & started a family, rode her for 8 mo. of pregnancy and decided to let her go the following spring. The only control I ever had was what she felt like giving me. The gal that bought her was experienced & 'they' had a great time together. I know now, she needed a leader. I needed a lesson horse....something I'd never even heard of. For the next 33 years my husband thought I should get a horse. He put a nice saddle on lay-away for me & said, "Find a horse" & I said "no, we can't afford it". A few years later some friends sold a pretty colt & he wanted me to buy it & checked into him & again I said, "No, we can't afford it & I have no idea how to manage a young horse." He gave up on the idea for a while as the kids got into the difficult teen years. Then just before he retired, he gave me some cash & told me to go find a horse. The money went in the bank & I said, "We can't afford it & I'm getting too old". Then our son got a girlfriend with a horse and then she bought a 2nd & invited me to come meet them. The next day I went to see them again and I called the newest one & he came running across this big field. Next day, the same thing. We started riding. I was hooked. The sweatshirt at the end of my bed that I grabbed to put on the next day smelled very horsey and it was like a bottle of million dollar perfume to me. After a few weeks riding her horse, I took a good spill. Decided to take lessons on a lesson horse. Within 2 months I was looking for my own horse to take lessons with. I ended up with my "Cash". Fun!

Sherry, Did you realize nearly 3 years have gone by since I left my message for you? Feb 26 of 2010.
    Funny you found it now.
How nice you are having a great time.
That is one big horse you have there! How old is your horse and what breed is he?
My goal is to have a safe trail horse and be a safe trail rider. I believe any time you are out in nature with all the unexpected things that can come up, you are achieving a lot. It is a difficult challenge to be safe out on the trail where the horse is constantly experiencing something new and often unexpected.
