The first lease horse I ever had was when I was 12, so so far you've got me beat! If your family was anything like mine, they put me into dancing, soccer, hockey, figure skating, ANYTHING to get me out of horses, obviously it didn't work. I have had 4 horses now in a matter of 6 years the lease horse lasted about 4-5 months before we ended up buying my first horse who was not right for me so I sold her,I went into riding dressage and jumping which was new to me as a western rider, I did that for a good 4-6 months and even though i was riding a beautiful kind soul of 16.3 hh of morgan warmblood X, He wasn't the right horse, and I blamed it on the disipline. I started western pleasure showing, I found a new coach, and rode with her, and bought a QH horse from them which I ahve had for 3 years and just recently sold. I now have a very high class show horse, and love him to death, but the base of this story is that I heard a family member said no to the horse, and my words of wisdom as for convincing them to help you with the ownership of a horse (at your age) is that the coach and you must prove through action that you are ready for the BIG step. Believe you me, I was out mucking stalls at 4 AM for money, and even today my schooling is on the back burner to pay for "the boys" (I ahve 2 horses now, a 2 yr old orphan colt, and my show gelding) I did research papers on common illnesses of horses, I did mathematical equations on howmy allowance would pay for the horse, but even after that, it was when my skill got to the point where a lesson horse just was not cutting it and when my family decided to allow me the oppertunity to move up. then you go horse shopping, which to me was not fun at all, but to eachs own, I remember being so excited to purachse a QH TB who had done reining, and western pleasure, nad I called the lady to let her know we were on our way, and she very sadly told me that during the night the horse we had all been excited to see had colicked and died.

Sorry about the break-up. Usually horses are better for us than most boy friends!
