I have never seen those little tabs. He was wearing a yellow nylon halter with leather crown breakaway. He has had that one for quite a long time now. But it was fraying and dingy looking, so time for a new color, blue or red I think if I can get it. When we first moved here he had a new leather one on and broke it the first week. It needs a new chin strap but that thing costs almost as much as the whole halter does, the cheap halters.

I always worry too if they should get a foot caught in their halter, especially when they put their back leg up and scratch their face like a dog. When I first got him I had an all nylon halter on and he did get caught, good thing the manager saw him and cut it off.

I was looking at Cooper, didn't even see the halter. Have you seen the breakaways that have a little leather tab that breaks and then you can have a couple tabs on hand to repair as necessary. I use the full leather piece breakaway. A while back Cash came in with no halter. I found most of it in the pasture but there was a chunk missing. We found that chunk in his pasture buddies shoe. Apparently it got caught in the shoe when they were playing and it broke one of the metal attachment. I was glad neither of the horses broke any part of themselves and I immediately went out and a bought a breakaway. Scarey!
