A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
I am from Ireland and I have been living in Toronto for 2years now. I have been riding and competing in show jumping and eventing for a long time. I have a friend near barrie with a ranch where I ride quarter horses (not my thing, but riding is riding and I am just grateful for the chance to get around some horses)

Hi
I only know a few words in Irish myself.  I am from Can., but am Irish at heart and soul.  I do have Irish blood, but my husband is 1/2.  My three are race horses, but before I got into racing, I was an eventer and did a lot of dressage riding since most of my horses were young, or just starting out, or I worked with other people's  young or tough/rough horses for them.  Usually I would start them until they were well broke, knew their bottom tests, then would start them under fences and then the owners would take them from there.  Most everyone back then wanted all the 'boring' work done, and just wanted a well broke horse that would jump! lol
My three are all typical stbs. in that they are athletic, able and smart as heck.  Che is the best of them, and if he IR does not get in the way has the talent to be anything I can dream of, dressage, jumper, eventer-- he is my dream horse in so many ways.  Tattoo is light and very racey, fast, fast-- scary fast as a pacer, on the trot-- and yes he can run like a TB... his zero to top gear is wicked quick.  He can also jump like a good horse, and would make a barrel race person impressed by his ability to turn on a dime as they say.  He is my 'rescue' horse, skinny, long legs and a struggle to keep weight on, but we love him.  Steel is a pony-- and claim's being a horse only since he is a stb. and legally they are all horses no matter their height.  He is cute and will make a super show pony for someone, or a solid riding horse for my son-- saucy like a pony too, catching him out of the paddock is like trying to get the Shetlands of my youth in!!!! lol
Anyway I shall send your Gaelic on to my friends in Ireland to translate, we have a friend Tarlach who is currently in Portlaoise, and another, Gerard in Maghaberry.  Gerard is currently on the blanket.  Che my big horse was named in their honour (of all the Irish men and women actually) but my own personal friends in particular.  They don't know the horse world, but get a kick out of the idea of my big fella and like to hear about husband Joe driving them.  And that we wear the Irish colours on the track. :)
Anyway it is really good to hear from an Irishman.
Cheers,
Slan.

I came across your page , and if you would like to try something different with your horse or any member of your stable I wanted to introduce myself and my hobby.
My name is Gary Glaser and I am the mounted commander of the 9th New York Cavalry and live in Binbrook, Ont. I belong to a group of equine enthusiasts that enjoy living historians and American civil war, we are the 9th NY cavalry.
The Ninth New York Cavalry has been reactivated by ain the portrayal of the life of the Federal Horse Soldier. As a group, we participate in living history encampments, re-enactments, and giving informative lectures throughout the year in both Ontario and the U.S. Visit use on the web at www.9thnycavalry.com .

I would like to forward you 2 you tube sites dealing with Civil War re enacting, , the first is well put together, and it is from this past year at a large event in Gettysburg, unfortunately none of our members were at this event, but do know a large number of the riders.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBCgFdTWLx4

The second one is a smaller event held at Upper Canada village, the 9th was the mounted cav. at this event, and this would be a typical small event .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCx3Xkn9Wuc

If you have any one in your stable that would interest in becoming involved in our group , do not hesitate to contact me at sgtgaryglaser@hotmail.com .
We are not a stable and are not associated with any stable. We are a not for profit group.
Thank You
Gary Glaser

Hi

You are right, riding is riding! lol

Where did you live in Ireland?  My husband's dad was from Tullyhoner-Letterkenny, Donnegal.  My family's closest friends are Irish although we live in Canada (Ingersoll, ON).  We currently have 3 horses, standardbreds, which are racehorses, but their future is in the riding ring (english).  Two would be also suited to competitive driving, but that isn't my sport, but is interesting and exiciting non-the-less.

Anyway, it is cool to see a fellow Irishman on this site. Cheers. Deb and the Tiocfaidh Ar La Stable home of Che (Tiocfaidh Ar La), Tattoo (Da Plane Boss), and Steel (The Stealth).

Slan.
