Yes, Gail, that is over in Uxbridge. Horse Sport ran an article a couple of months ago about it, and I know my coach teaches there. Maybe check some back issues of Horse Sport, I think they had the people's name.

Bill, my recipe on evenings after a challenging lesson is Advil, a glass of red wine, and a hot bath. Oh, and we are installing a hot tub with LOTS of therapeutic jets. ;-) Massage therapy is a wonderful thing too! It is all so worth it - I figure a…

Ok, good to know, thanks Alison. Sounds like the cut-under is key then. I have so much to learn....speaking of which, I need to check in with the trainer I was in touch with and see if he has space for my mare this winter to get her going in harness…

Lovely, lovely photo Alison!!

Interesting. I know that the instructors at the Learn to Drive clinic I went to strongly suggested a 2-wheeled vehicle for the first while for both horse and driver. A 2-wheeler with heavy wheels, mind you, NOT bike-type wheels/tires. If it is prope…

Went to my first learn-to-drive clinic yesterday at Relhok Farm in Barrie. It was a lot of fun, and I'm sure with lots of lessons and 15 years or so I'll get the hang of harnessing, putting-to and perhaps even driving, lol. It was a good clinic at a…

Good Morning Jennifer,
We do not train horses for driving, my invitation was merely social. As far as a trainer goes, I have heard great things about Jeff Kohler but have never met him. I have taken lessons with Kirstn Brunner who is about an hour or so south of you in Erin. She and her husband David, ( who trains the horses) are exceptional trainers. Kirsten is extremely accomplished herself and has students who have excelled in driving and riding. Don't know about prices there.
As far as training for driving is concerned it is essential that you get the horse trained by someone who knows driving. Its far too risky to try to do it yourself no matter how good a rider you are.

Yess we have Canadians and we love them. Our mare is for sale ( Kharma) but she is a very forward horse ideal for combined driving and she needs an experienced driver,. If you are planning a trip east of Toronto, please consider giving us a call and stopping by!
Chhers,
Frances

You'll have a lot of fun at Relhok. Jeff is a great teacher and he knows a lot. Combined driving is a lot of fun (though I don't drive, I only navigate in the combined shows. I only drive in the pleasure shows...for now!).

That would be fun - school cross country. The barn I ride at has a Pony Club so they usually go do things like that as part of Pony Club events. I am a *bit* older and so don't get to go. :-(

I hear ya on not bouncing like I used to. Now it is bounce, crunch or thud! :-) After my last couple falls I took a break from jumping for a while. I have gotten back to jumping occasionally and am probably better for it. I am more relaxed and haven't fallen since. (Knock on wood!) I would like to run a grasshopper or beginning novice cross country course though. Griffin gets very excited around other horses so we are working on that for now and getting him to canter decently.

Hello Jennifer,
It is great to see another over 40 draft cross rider interested in eventing! I'd love to see more photos.

The late medieval nobility turned dressage into a sport by giving public demonstrations of "horse ballets" to wow the commoners during public celebrations. They would do airs above the ground as well as movements on the ground. The late medieval kni…

There are horses that do not think the little fences are worth worrying about. Are you lungeing him over the jumps just in a cavesson, or are you using side reins too? Do you lunge over jumps with a saddle on? Do not use side reins (I am not saying…

Where did I state that medival dressage was humane and correct? I have stipulated that the SRS under Podhajsky presented dressage more correctly. I know who Kottas is and he is not a horseman! Podhajsky was a horseman and even General Patton was a h…
