neck reining reins

the cross rein method would probably be when you're using split reins and the would cross over the withers. A rein would be attached to the bit, run along side the neck and the come over the withers.

Your question still isn't making sense, I'm sorry. If you're using a full-cheek snaffle you should have 2 reins, one attached to each side of the bit. I have no idea why you have 2 reins on each sid…

Slowing the Canter--Suggestions?

I do this this is very good advice. The reason I went with a half-halt type is because the horse is a former dressage horse and she's not looking for a WP type lope. I guess I took it to mean that sh…

neck reining reins

I'm not sure I understand this question. The reins should be attached to the bit just like would at any other time

turning her hind-end to you is a MAJOR sign of disrespect. You wouldn't allow a full grown horse to do that, would you? Whatever you let her get away with, is the best you can ever expect her to be. It is important that you teach her to be a respect…

Amen to that. In many of the western classes like pleasure or horsemanship or whatever, you tend to be going into a right with 30 other horses that look fairly similar to yours. The clothing, I think, is used to help differentiate between the 5 bay…

Your baby is successfully intimidating you. Horses play a game, it's called "whoever moves their feet first loses" and so far this filly is way ahead of you. Do you think any other herd member would allow her to act like that? Heck no. Any horse in…

I'm of the belief that a horse should go the speed the rider dictates. If I want my horse to have a nice, relaxed lope on a loose rein, then that is what I'll get. If I ask for a little more forward Hunt Seat type canter, then that's what I'll get.…

The late medieval nobility turned dressage into a sport by giving public demonstrations of "horse ballets" to wow the commoners during public celebrations. They would do airs above the ground as well as movements on the ground. The late medieval kni…

There are horses that do not think the little fences are worth worrying about. Are you lungeing him over the jumps just in a cavesson, or are you using side reins too? Do you lunge over jumps with a saddle on? Do not use side reins (I am not saying…

Where did I state that medival dressage was humane and correct? I have stipulated that the SRS under Podhajsky presented dressage more correctly. I know who Kottas is and he is not a horseman! Podhajsky was a horseman and even General Patton was a h…

Hi Guys,One of the biggest mistakes riders make when we're trying to overcome horseback riding fears is that we direct our efforts toward the conscious mind. You know--willpower, iron-jawed determination. The problem with that strategy is that you c…
