I don't think competition is evil. Why are you saying I think that?

This extreme warmup has been acceptable for over 20 years, change is slow.

I just could not pick. There are so many great people out there to learn from. I think the most inspirational guy I ever saw was Henri van Shaik. He was so old he needed two people to lean on to go to lunch during clinic (he told me he didn't need h…

It's tough to say about equine athletes. I'm sort of a nature guy, I like to keep things simple. But with the top athletes with their high mileage I realize things get more complicated. I'm lucky I can keep things simple in my little barn :) In a bi…

In a weird way they KIND OF said it's not allowed, but it's open to interpretation. It's not allowed of one is visibly forcing...pulling, yanking rein...but thing is, after much training at home, there will be very little force in public I think muc…

No, they didn't. They said you can warm up in any position as long as you do not ride aggressively. I think an awful lot of people are going to be really discouraged by this ruling, but i think it's a small start in the right direction, and hope eve…

May the doctors heal the infection, and fix that pesky problem with your medicine. I hope you get back riding soon.

Thank you so kindly for the prayers. It can really be wrenching to visit a city hospital emergency department. The first hosp. I was taken to (the doc at the health clinic was absolutely adamant that I needed to go IMMEDIATELY), was in a wealthy neighborhood, the second hospital with the neurology team was a different story. A homeless woman who was pregnant and passed out on the street due to dehydration, a young man who had a heart attack, I felt so lucky, to be honest. There was an elderly man who had been in a car accident, and his dog was right in the emergency hallway, with his friend. The dog sat there and whined and panted the entire time the guy was unconscious. As soon as he started to come around, the dog started barking joyfully and would not stop. One of the medics said, 'I've seen it before, they always know'....!!!

Dear sic2--all the best for you. I know how scary this can be.
No matter how bad it seems now, riding is definitely in your future, and the odds are, with modern medicine, that things will get back to normal. Just do not rush back to your usual level of physical activity just to "prove" that you can.
I want to thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us, here at Barnmice.

"I hope you have a good doctor"

LOL...So do I! But it's a little like picking a dressage trainer, LOL, who knows until they're done!

Well back from hospital, and doctor #5 says there is no aneurism or stroke.

Well the symptoms are pain in the head, dizziness, nausea, loss of balance, and blurred vision. It started very suddenly and was very severe, I couldn't even stand up at first. When it started I was slurring my words, couldn't type without missing the keys, couldn't see print.

I could walk in a straight line but not a circle, if I did I got really nauseated, it's less now, but I still am dizzy and nauseated and still have the head pain.

At this point, my list is, some sort of atypical vascular headache caused by one of the medications I take(or just popped up on its own), pressure on facial nerves from an infection, or 'Other', LOL. I'm taking prednisone, antibiotics and I'm supposed to take vicodin, and I'm supposed to rest for a week.

Thanks all, you have all been very kind. I wanted to spend some time with my horses before I went to the hospital, we're on our way now. Wish us luck!

Sorry it took me so long to answer. My MS acted up and I have to adapt.
I think you said that some dressage riders have had difficulties with developing the sitting trot of horses trained forward.
It may be a few weeks before I'm recovered enough to test this out, but when I started sitting in the FS for Slow Eq., the sitting trot started feeling more like the sitting trot I learned in 1970 (from British accredited full Instructors, using mostly buttock/back muscles), slightly springier than what I get in my current central balance sitting trot (using my front abdomen muscles mostly) which does feel like there is there is too much weight on the forehand.
So I will ride all three sitting trot seats in front of my instructor the very first chance I get when I finally have more energy again. Should be interesting trying to see/feel the subtle differences. This will be at a sitting trot with no collection.
