Been awhile

It's been some time since I've been on here, too busy I guess. Things have been going well with Monty though we have hit a couple of snags in his training. Still that is to be expected with a youngster and overall, my trainer is quite happy with his progress, and so am I.

I went to check out the Standardbred Schooling Show at the Langely Riders arena a couple of weeks ago and really quite enjoyed it. I had thought to take Monty to the one coming up just for the fun of it, but I may… Continue

We made it!

Despite appalling weather (felt like it NEVER stopped raining - though the photos make it look as if we have had sunshine every day!) I got back from Ride Bare on Sunday, joined on the last day by my partner Andy and 2 friends on 3 of our other horses :-)

Full story is on www.rockleyfarm.blogspot.com and I will put clips and pics up here as soon as I can… Continue

Ride Fit 1-2-3: Stretches for Riders

Hi,

I'm sitting in my training studio and it seems eerily quiet these days- except anywhere near horse show grounds. For some of you, the show season is in full swing with long days, and long weeks. It seems like the summer daylight hours just give us more time to work: more time to train, more time at the barn—and less time for other things, like off-horse exercise. And with the sun rising later and setting just a little sooner- it's like we're really trying to 'make hay while the sun… Continue

A kiss...

...For my beloved.

My friend Alex took this great picture today. I was getting ready for a ride and Bruvin wanted some attention. I had no idea Alex was taking pictures but when she sent this to me later today I was so happy! Isn’t it gorgeous?

Do notice that his head is bigger than my upper body ;)

I did not melt in the rain

This morning the ground was wet, so I looked at the TV weather and it looked like there would be a tiny gap with no rain, so I decided I would ride anyway. Shannon thought her ring would stand up to it as we are mainly riding at a walk now. I got to the stable, it had stopped raining, so we tacked up.

Mars was a little happier today, I changed to my dressage saddle, and Shannon said he…

What a wonderful, well-researched article! Although I don't use too many TBs in my program any more, I have a great fondness for them as a breed, which may spring from the decade + I spent on the TB racetracks here in the US. I was lucky enough to be a part of that world during one of the golden decades of horse racing -- I first went on the track just a year before Secretariat won the Belmont (was there that day!!) and saw such horses as Forego, Ruffian, Riva Ridge, Secretariat, Foolish… Continue

Leo July 21 - August 21

Well hello there Leos, a Happy Happy Birthday to you this year, and what a fantastic year it will be - one for you to shine.

We are all so aware of the fact that you do like to appear as if everything is always perfect, the take charge person. This year you are willing to share your wealth of knowledge with others at your barn - a great place to start! Trying to set goals for yourself and your horse will prove futile until you come to terms with the… Continue

The Working Donkeys and Horses of Mali, West Africa

We’ve done pretty well for rain this year.We were away for the only nice week in June in Brit, and then we were in Ethiopia – rained every day, and now Mali. And guess what. Rainy season.

Deluges of the stuff. Flooding the streets and open sewers of Bamako, and running orange-brown torrents off the hills and down into the river. What a river it is too. Over half a mile wide in the city, the swirling pewter-grey mass of water sweeps under the two bridges where the traffic sits… Continue
