A Poem to all My Friends who Ride.

Being a Gemini I have two sides that I live.  The one I am very happily married, family, and a home with a few friends my husband and I associate with together. The other I have a whole other side to me that is for the most part without my husband.  I’m a horseman and he is not.  This means I am without him for the social as well as the competitive aspect of my other life.

One New Years we had conflicting parties and we were not going to see my…

Bad break on Race day

Sleek,

his coat shines

Coppertone’s aglow

Muscles tense as etched glass lines.

Drugged,

Eyes all a glare.

Fear, sweat and agony turns,

While running nostrils flare.

Horse Couture

And yet another poetic ramble from my alter ego, Shakespeare "The Equine."

Enjoy!

Spring has arrived

My coat’s a state.

No way to be

A fashion plate.

Hair’s falling here;

It’s falling…

Spring

After a short break my alter ego, Shakespeare "The Equine," returns to demonstrate his way with words. Enjoy!

Spring is here;

Brings with it change.

My life and habits

The Christmas Pony

In Beth’s dreams a pony white

Would dance and frolic through the night.

By day into her mind he’d trot

A fancy, floating, fleeting thought.

Sometimes upon his back she’d ride;

Sometimes behind a veil hide

And simply watch him prance and play.

He would be hers, she knew, one day.…

Christmas Eve Dressage Poem

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the farm,

Only one horse was stirring, the brown one in the barn,

The only one to hang a stocking from his feed dish that night,

Hoping that Santa would come, and fill it just right.

The other horses were settled quietly in their stalls,

While their dreams were of horse treats, candy canes and riding halls,

And the cat in the hay barn and the dog on his mat,

Had just snuggled in for a long winter's…

Merlin My Pony

Merlin my pony,
sweet and divine.
he loves to jump,
and has manners quite fine.
all day and all night,
he paces around,
hoping for food,
though none is around.
Merlin my pony,
so sweet and divine
he has a love for food,
and he is all mine!

A Christmas Horse Story

I don't know who the author is, but the story is lovely.

The young couple had made their usual hurried, pre-Christmas visit to the little farm where dwelt their elderly parents with their small herd of horses. The farm had been named Lone Pine Farm because of the huge pine which topped the hill behind the farm, and through the years had become a talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the countryside.

The old folks no longer showed their… Continue

For the Lost (Everyone Should Read This)

You may think this is just another story about a girl who lost her first horse... Or is losing her first horse. But I am losing my soulmate, my only friend, and the being who gave me a second chance at life. Cookies has extremely sever founder, and chances are grim. The poem below explains all, and I think everyone could relate to it. If you can't, you haven't experienced life or true love. Comment if you wish, but no mean comments, this is a really hard time for me.

Shakespeare in love ...

Lest anyone think that Valentine's Day is going to pass us by without a jaunty love missive from one Shakespeare the Equine, let me not disappoint you but offer, herewith, his ode to one fair filly who lives down the aisle ... Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Fair Damsel

To Fergie

Is it thine amorous eye

That seizes mine awareness,

Or the wistful yearning of thy

Tender whispers in mine attentive ear?

I know not save the craving…

Season's Greetings

It's a snowy Boxing Day in Aurora, Ontario. Having no respect for time and a head full of cold symptoms, I managed to pull myself out of bed around 10:30 a.m. and have been able to simply enjoy the experience of being -- such a rare occurence lately with all the hustle and bustle of the past few months. My spirits were warmed as I ate my granola and fruit breakfast and read the report in today's Globe and Mail (front page too!) of the successful efforts of a group of people in McBride,…

Make Me Worthy Of My Horse

Make me worthy of my horse,

as I value his trust above all else.

Help me understand his lessons,

for he is far wiser than I.

Let me listen with my soul,

For my ears & eyes miss much.

Guide my hands & make them feel,

for I hold not my friend’s mouth in them, but his heart.

Keep my mind open & willing,

only in this way will my horse & I continue to grow.

Put faith in place of my doubts,

only one… Continue

MADNESS

A friend sent this in an email the other day, and it really tickled me:

Why do I like horses? I reckon I must be mad.

My mother wasn't horsey - And neither was my dad.

But the madness hit me early – and it hit me like a curse.

And I've never gotten better. In fact…I've gotten worse.

My stables are immaculate. My house is like a hovel.

Last year for my birthday - I got a brand new shovel.

I hardly read a paper - but I know who's… Continue
