Video Snippets from Academy Jump Sessions

Although Annette trains on Development Programme for her flatwork and dressage skills, she has had a long break from jump training. I always make sure even flatwork enthusiasts keep up with very basic jumping sessions unless they specifically ask not to leave the ground.

WEG News Farce 13 - The Satire

Hello my friends!

I've been busy and so have not been able to post as often as I'd like. Fighting bad guys and stuff like that. So I figured I'd make up for it and give you guys the first look at my latest creation (muahahaha). It's another animated short movie, set in the make believe news broadcast world covering the World Equestrian Games.

I hope you enjoy it as much, or more, than a previous one shown on my blog called…

First Level, v2

Today we were off to a schooling show with a UK judge who was in doing a clinic yesterday. She marched over the wooden bridge to the outdoor schooling ring, where she was very good. Easy warm up, although it takes a bit to get some forward going. Into the ring and off we go.

So, let us then enumerate the rider errors that caused her to score under 70:

Stiff hands into the halt.

Inconsistent contact, but better.

Started a 20m circle when it should have…

"If you are going to have livestock..."

"... then you should be prepared to have deadstock."

It is a sentiment that I have heard (too) many times, and one that I hate to hear. However, there is unfortunately an element of truth to it. Most horse owners are keenly aware of the fact that horses have a knack for finding ways to injure themselves, and that they are susceptible to a wide variety of ailments that have the possibility of ending the career or even the life of a horse.

The life of myself and my boyfriend… Continue

Horses and Happiness Go Hand in Hand! :)

Well, we've wrapped up the qualifying season and I couldn't be happier! I've been trying to make it to both the North American Junior Championships held in Kentucky at the end of July where both team and individual medals are awarded and also the National Junior Dressage Championships in Gladstone at the beginning of August where the National Champion is crowned. Our last show was…

William Micklem says IT’S WORTH THE WAIT

There is no doubt that early intervention is the efficient way to tackle learning difficulties and weaknesses. To nip a problem in the bud leads to both accelerated progress and happier students. This applies to both mental and physical challenges and to both humans and horses. Any behaviour or way of going that is undesirable is much more difficult and time consuming to change if it has become habitual.…

Where do I go from here?

The closer I get to the Academy going live the more I ask myself, where do I go from here...I've received some very good feedback from all I shared the drafts of the Programmes with and I'm both anxious and excited at the thought of bringing it all to life and spreading the word. It will take a long time to make it into what I see in my head it could be but I… Continue

The rider IS the problem...

Well, I think we have found the answer to the squealing and bucking in the show ring... as it was described by my trainer... you're squeezing her eyeballs out! I hate it when I find out that it's me causing the problems. I have a very patient horse, thank goodness, who manages to forgive my foibles, as I forgive her when she's a boob occassionally. And a good trainer who is guiding us back to fill the holes in our training so we can progress. Today she said that the hardest step is getting…

It's Time...

For me to let you know I’m still alive! My computer had to be sent to service because it broke down and screamed at me when I tried to turn it on. So I’ve been without my dearest computer for almost 2 months! Anyways, enough about me. Let’s talk horses

All the horses have had/are having 5 weeks of summer vacation. Linda has finished her vacation and is now put back into work. We started out easy by walking around in the heat, going swimming and just goofing off. But we cant go around… Continue

Alberta On My Mind .... Mind the Wind

Last week Evie and I spent our time “toiling” in beautiful Edmonton, Alberta, home of the Northlands Horse Show. Edmonton Northlands Horse Show has become one of the premier events in Western Canada under the stewardship of the Edmonton Hunter – Jumper Association and the direction of Show Manager Caroline Jones. The event is unique in the fact that it is held on the infield of Northlands Race Track, who along with Hastings Park in Vancouver is the location for all of western Canada’s Grade… Continue
