Best Show Day Ever!

As you can tell by the superlatives in the title, I'm about to go overboard.  Much gushing about the Sainted Bay Mare will follow, so here's your warning to either pull on your waders or abandon ship now!

Last Saturday we showed at the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show in the Pre-Preliminary division.  Granted, 3' or thereabouts may be small…

First Sleep Away Show Ever: Reflections on Day 4

It's actually Sunday morning, the last day of the show, and I'm writing this while the kiddo is happily singing in the shower. The joy in her voice as she belts out whatever lyrics come to mind is the reason we did this whole away show thing. Ridiculously expensive as it it is, it's a chance for Mom and kiddo to live our passion for a little while, have some lengthy quality time… Continue

The Thrifty Boarder!

I'm sure a lot of folks who self board their animals have had this happen once or twice.. 'Oh look, the feed bill came, how much is it this month?'... -insert jaw drop, eye pop, and then possibly a thwack after hitting the ceiling + string of expletives- Mine got to 700 dollars for TWO HORSES a few months ago FOR ONE MONTH. 'WTF!'

My first…

William Micklem asks IS THIS A MAGIC SUIT OF CLOTHES?

Dublin show at the Royal Dublin Society in Ballsbridge is the centrepiece and driving force for many in the Irish Equestrian community. It is so dominant in our culture that people just talk about it as ‘the horse show’, despite the fact that there are…

March show!

So as I packed up the horse trailer to go home, I though to myself it had been a great day, could have been better though. But the day did not go as smoothly as id had hoped. First, my mom was unable to drive me to the show so I had to car pool me and my horse with a barn friend. Anyway, my class started at 8 so at the least had to be their at the least 7:30, so i got picked up at 7:00 (supposed to be picked up at 6:30) and we got there at 7:45! Well yes, my first show with Summer I was…

At the Tack store.....

So the other day I inoccently wandered into a local tack store and ended coming out with a new sheepskin half pad, a set of jointed irons, new leather riding boots, and a new bit for Summer.

Its funny how no horse person can ever go into a tack shop without spending $200 and up! Mabye its the new leather smell, or all the shiny objects..lol Its like we go into the store just needing a rubber martingale stopper and then suddenly we remember we need a new show bridle, a new show…

Going to start low, like cantering a low course of X-rails, and we'll go from their. I want to be able to complete my last 3 Level's on her and then see where we both are at then.

Cant Wait!

So we put in an offer for Summer and we pretty well have it accepted. For those of you who dont know Summer, she is a 6 yr old 14.2hh Dutch WB X Paint X Welsh (Dam is Paint and Sire is Dutch X Welsh). Beautiful Little Hunter Pony. The reason we were interested in buying her is because she is a pony that we want to take on for a project. Also knowing that judges allow an extra stride for ponys, and Hunter ponies being worth more, we thought taking on a nice little horse like this one would be… Continue

Been a While

I appoligize for not posting for awhile, been crazy busy. First of all, yes I got the job. I get all my chores done from 8 - 11 am. That means I get up at 7am and so I'm constantly tired, but I do get Friday to Sunday off which is good, I don't think I could handle 7 days a week. Im really fortunate though, to have an amazing coach, she has been great to work and ride with. I have been leasing a couple different horses in the past 2 months, its really interesting to ride different horses once… Continue
