Moments with Mara B

Most days I visit Mara at the stable, we have become zen together. We always vary our daily activities, between ground work, trails and road riding, grooming and walks around the stable. Consistent contact is so powerful. I'm grateful for Mara each day.

My special mare Mara B and I practice our own unique form of equine therapy. Mara has been a strong healing presence for me since the death of our youngest son Benjamin. Please ride along and meet our delightful stable pals, the paddock horses Mara is with, enjoy watching the changing seasons, weather and crop conditions, the simple beauty of nature we… Continue

Why We Love Them.

I had a philosophy teacher who believed that vulnerability was our greatest strength. I debated her; my shell was pretty thick back then and I had a lot to defend. When I was worn out…

January: The Mourning Month.

Winter doldrums: I’m dragging my feet all the way in from the arena, the ground is dry, the grass is dead and the wind is cold as a slap in the face. Maybe I have an Auld Lang Syne hangover. Mourning and a desire to hibernate go hand in hand in January. It seems we lose alot of…

Love Poem

I fell in love with horses all over again this week. Yes, it was a pretty short fall and yes, it does happen every week. And no, it never gets old. Does my enthusiasm make me seem less professional?

It has been also been one of those weeks when most of my clients are having challenges with their horses. Some of the challenges are old ones and some are brand new but regardless of origin or cause- a challenge is an opportunity by another name.…

Horses are the language of the soul

I beleive a horse speaks directly into our soul, instantly bypassing, beyond the everyday suffering and pain of human endurance, and migrate directly into our beating hearts.

We, horse lovers, both feeling that wisdom and holding it close, perceive their beauty, their trust, their unconditional love as on of our greatest life's treasures.

Within a horse's open hearts, we allow ourselves to gather the love we have stuffed beneath the surface, all… Continue

Been a While

I appoligize for not posting for awhile, been crazy busy. First of all, yes I got the job. I get all my chores done from 8 - 11 am. That means I get up at 7am and so I'm constantly tired, but I do get Friday to Sunday off which is good, I don't think I could handle 7 days a week. Im really fortunate though, to have an amazing coach, she has been great to work and ride with. I have been leasing a couple different horses in the past 2 months, its really interesting to ride different horses once… Continue

You may think this is just another story about a girl who lost her first horse... Or is losing her first horse. But I am losing my soulmate, my only friend, and the being who gave me a second chance at life. Cookies has extremely sever founder, and chances are grim. Im on Van Island and LOVING IT!!!

So, after enduring -15 tempatures in Manitoba, fog so thick in Edmonton that you can cut a hole in it, and the 2 hr farry ride to the island, we are doing pretty good. We got here I sware by a divine blessing. But now that I'm here, I really love it. Today Im going to call (hopefully) my new employer, and set up a time to meet with her early this coming week to see her barn, and hopefully try out a horse that she has for sale. Im really excited. I have, by the way, been off riding for 2 months… Continue
