Changing Weather Brings on a Protest
Last week I did my homework, first 4 minutes on the Anywhere Saddle Chair (ASC) then two days later 10 ½ minutes on the ASC because Shannon had the sniffles and did not come out on Sunday. This last session made me tired, on Monday I woke up really tired and I was moving very slowly all day. Then on Monday I rode my Home Horse (HH) for 5 minutes when my…

Cider Ignored the Gap
Last Sunday I got to ride Cider for the first time in a month. It was good to see her again!
The night before there had been a wind storm with gusts strong enough to move the livestock panels that make up the ring. Shannon and Nancy had gotten the panels fixed except for the gate panel which had been…

Bingo Slowly Improves
The shedding season is in full force and the bug season is just about to start down here. Bingo hair is all over my saddle pad, my girth, my riding clothes, and tracked into my mini-van and house, Bingo hair is taking over my universe (with some help from Cider.) You'd think after weeks of weekly thorough groomings that the quantity would decrease, that his coat would look…

Bingo's Selective Memory
Due to Debbie's endless list of tasks to get her stable ready for a show today I had to take my lesson on Thursday. I'm just glad that Debbie was able to fit me in!
When I got to the stable I noticed a sign in the wash stall, to NOT shed the horses out in the wash stall because all the hair had…

Bingo's Vacation Ends
Bingo had a 8 month long vacation with nobody riding him at all. He's been fed, his hooves trimmed, and blanketed when needed (he lives outside), more than enough time for his body to heal from any little undetectable injuries. Debbie had started grooming out his winter coat the week before my lesson, getting a lot of hair off outside the barn.…

Spring is Here
Yes, North Carolina in the spring. This is the best time of year here, the gnats and flies are still mostly absent, even the colder mornings warm up nicely, the birds are tweeting outside the window, and the horses are shedding what is left of their winter coats. The trees are flowering, the leaves are sprouting, and it is simply gorgeous!
Grooming Mia has been a hairy adventure in more ways than one. Of course, gobs and gobs of hair fly off her coat and the…

Winter Comes Back to Stay
Fortunately, since I am in the South, it is not a terribly severe winter. So far, all the precipitation has been liquid. Even with several killing frosts, some flies appear when it gets warm, and then another killing frost hammers them. Nights in the 20s F eventually get those nasty flies out of the picture.
Talking about flies, I have noticed something this year. In 2014, I noticed that the population of the “buzz bomber” flies was miniscule, and…

At least I started the New Year right, I got to ride Mia on Jan. 1, the only time I got to ride this week.
On Tuesday I saw a few Bradford Pear trees in bloom in Charlotte, NC.
After three inches of rain and unseasonable warmth, a cold front finally pushed the rain off to the East. It was brisk on Friday with a cold breeze and it was still cloudy so there was no sun to bask in. When I was using my slicker brushes on Mia’s coat I found out that Mia has already…
