Three Speeds—A Work in Progress
Another week of just one ride, but it was my riding lesson!
When I got to the stable for my lesson on Wednesday Debbie was not there yet. Mary kindly brought MJ in for me and started grooming him, starting with cleaning out his hooves really well under the bar across his frog. Then she…

More Trotting
When I talked to Debbie Friday morning as we prepared MJ to ride she told me that MJ had been ridden by one of the girls in the college riding group. Apparently she had not only been super diligent about cleaning out MJ's right front hoof under the bar shoe, she had then cantered MJ a lot. MJ was not visibly lame when led in, but Debbie felt some hesitation when that hoof landed.…

We Introduce MJ to the Double Bridle

How I Conduct a Training Session at the Walk
Since I am now in transition from no medicine for my Multiple Sclerosis to re-starting the only medicine that has ever controlled my MS, my body is changing daily. There were times, when I was younger, when I would have been terribly bored just walking around the ring, keeping on the rail and going around in pointless circles, and accomplishing…

Debbie Tells Me to GET MY HEELS DOWN
On Wednesday, when I got to the stable, Debbie had already groomed Bingo. She told me how MUCH she liked having her own pair of the HandsOn grooming gloves since she could go ahead and groom Bingo for my ride. She really appreciates being able to get down and scrub the horse’s skin, especially his back and cannon bones where crud tends to accumulate. Using these grooming gloves really seems to prevent the accumulation of fungus in the horse’s…
