Dido. Wheels (pictured) went through the exact same learned behavor. His schleese and awesome trainer turned him into a training level event horse with no issues. But the moment his new mom tried something that didn't fit on him, the "cold backed" issues returned. After a fitting consultation and adjustment - he's back to being a star.

The 6 months to a year is spot on. Currently working a paint that had that problem. Been wearing an event vest and helmet in a western saddle as well.Coming off will ruin the previous work. Good post
