I can do either one, and I am a very easy going person. I was thinking be there by nine thirty - but f you want to ride nine thirty I can be there earler. Yes Spud was very muddy too yesterday - I didn't envy your job cleaning up Pekoe.

That is a good idea. Let's confirm on Friday but even if it rains that is fine as I keep forgetting we have an arena. I will check the weather. Gail.

LOL I had Donna hold him for me - then he was as good as gold - he doesn't like that outdoor mounting block when there is stuff happening - can't see what is going on and he is a nosy nosy boy. He was very well behaved - we are working on rounding. Then went around paddocks to do the hill, he was very good- and very brave - so he had lots of praise for being a brave boy. I am going to try to be there early this Saturday, around 9:30, so if you are around i would love to ake it a ride up and down the hills.

Hi Gail - It's not a great weekend for me -I am caring for my father who can't be left alone from Sat to Sunday morning, I wll, I hope be at the barn
Saturdsay morning early - but it will be a quick ride because I eed to get to Aurora by 1100 am. I will be out there by 1030 - 1100 on Sunday - not much time for a hack. I love Pekoe what agreat personality he has. Spud needs to build up strength walk , trot - he has a sore right hip that is slowly improving wiith walk trot work - I did canter him up a hill last week because I couldn't resist, but lots of hill walking and a little trot is his speed right now. Willl be there for the communicator.

Hi - yes, we will have an "on the spot" - as a matter of fact, I have to order that today - know what you mean - we had to petition at our farm to get an outhouse as the barn is practically all women! Yes - you can just show up - no problem. I am also a fair weather rider - hope to see you there. I can join the over 60's as I will hit that golden number in November!! I will do that shortly - Happy Trails, this looks like a good month weather-wise - Marg

Hi Gail - Yes, I also board where Marianne went - along with Rea, Pat, Sonya
and Jan - all of them were at PV when I was. We have a lovely board
situation with the York forest right across the street from the barn, many,
many acres of riding trails, long flat straightaways just perfect for
gaiting (McCowan north of the Vivian Sideroad). The Bike and Beast will be
held on Sunday, Sept 27 in the Durham Forest (7th Conc & Durham 21) -
registration at 10:00 am - riders go out at 11:00 am - over by 1:00-1:30 pm
with a BBQ to follow. We set up teams of bike riders with a horse rider -
each rider goes to the forest (separately if the horse doesn't want to go
with a bike) - each person collects 3 ribbons from the forest and returns -
the team will have 6 ribbons which they trade for cards - the best poker
hand wins a prize (there will hopefully be prizes for everyone!) - you can
purchase cards also to make a better hand - all proceeds will be going to
Windreach Farms where they do therapeutic riding. We ask that you either
donate $20 yourself to participate or get sponsors to sign up on your
behalf - we will have sheets available shortly. The person with the
greatest $$ value of sponsorship will also win a prize. Hope this helps -
keep in touch - where will you be boarding in the winter? Marg

I would enjoy that - I did have him "talk" to a Reiki person at the other barn - he didn't have much to say LOL

That is not a problem at all Gail, I don't blame him for not being all that excited about sitting there waiting for us to have a good time and then come back and tell him all the good things that he missed while waiting...lol I think that would be right up there with mental cruelty or something. lol Yes by all means get your driving gloves on and get'er done. You certainly will notice a difference once you get the hang of hauling, and can go and come as you please. We can do this next year or when ever. It is great that you have the trails at the barn to be able to go out there and enjoy them when ever. I got on yesterday and took him in the back fifty, and had him in his rack then on into the neighbors stubble field. The flies were swarming all over us by that time, I don't know why but they were driving both of us crazy. He wanted to bust loose on our way home but did what I asked. I did not stay out long, he was trying so hard to be good and I was not having a good time fighting off flies and trying to keep him from going stupid. This morning he was just beside himself. I turn all three of them out together for the day once meal time is overwith because I have to give the old guy time to eat. I was in the barn for a while (working in the hay again what else) and I heard all of these thundering hooves. I am wondering what the heck would be getting them all worked up. I can't see anything through the cracks of the big roll door. I go into the part of the barn that they are in...there are two horses in the barn...this is one horse that is making all of this noise...I see him as he runs past the open door. I go out to see if I can see a bear, or cougar or something that would cause a horse to be so goofy...nothing, just him, running, jumping, farting, stopping, sliding looking around and off he goes again. I guess the rain and cooler temps just made him feel so good. lol What a character.

It was nice to meet you Gail last weekend - and I look forward to hcking with you!
Didn't ride yesterday - Spud was high as a kite so I took him into arena and played with the ball with him. I know it's for desensitizing them , but I have done some clicker training with him, I didn't have the clicker, but I did have a handful of mints - in 5 minutes he learned that if he went after the ball and touched it when I kicked it he got a mint. Smart boy, and something different to do when it may not be safe to ride -got him focused on something other than the scary sounds, and I don't think he's scared of the ball anymore.

I will get back to you in a day or so once I see where these places are and what the old man has to say. I also have a paper going to print soon so am clearing proof. Gail.

O.K. Gail, I have been on the computer and phone for a week or so. I have called the different counties and conservation areas, brought up provincial parks, etc etc.
I am coming to the conclusion that there are not alot of places out there that welcome horses. That sucks.
Since I am heading north on September 13 and it is a Sunday it will be about the only day, or the 19 of September which is also a Sunday that you and I can meet up somewhere to ride for a couple of hours. If on the 13 I suggest Hullet Marsh which is in the Clinton area. If on the 19 we could meet at one of the Dufferin County areas (I am thinking of the main tract) in Mansfield area. If either of these days is good for you let me know. The only thing is since I am carrying on to other places to ride and camp I will only be hauling one horse with me on either date. That means that your husband will be with out a horse. Sorry but these are my only options at the time if it is not doable for you at this time, not a problem, we can do it next year perhaps. Talk to you later

Hi Gail, I am outside of Boulder , CO. The mule in the picture is my 10 yr.old molly mule named Wanda. We ride mostly in the high country outside of Boulder and the Flat Tops area. I am also a hay farmer with a great hay season so far! Retired but still not enough time to ride as much as I would like!

Hi Gail
Thanks for the friend invitation, yes we almost qualify for your group, which one, Over 60's group or Riders over 60?

We are just East of Woodstock Ontario, so busy with farming and our business at the moment that we only get to ride around the field and do a bit of work in the paddock on Sundays - when it's not raining!

Hi Gail, what a wingnut! I'm sorry totally not remembering putting your email in the fittips list...but seriously, if you want to comment to the blog on here again, there seems to be a lack, and people I bump into really do tell me they liked the responses because they had the same question...but hard to respond if no-one asks!
