Oh Marti, I can send you some wonderful examples of communication with animals. I have specific chapters in my book; On the Right Lead, dedicated to the readings I have done with dogs and horses that have turned them around.
If a horse is troubled and we cannot seem to move forward, and it is not sore, then we will ask it questions. The answers are astounding.

I have a bay Morgan mare, and we can communicate easily. Is this unusual? And when we put our foreheads together it is heaven. A real meeting of the minds, so to speak.

As this is a site that was created by Lauren, whom I have nothing but the greatest respect for (really would love to get her to read my other 2 kids soon) I would love to hear sometime what was the MOST interesting read she has ever done.....

I believe strongly in human/horse communication. I always feel as if my horse can understand me somehow. I think the bond between horse and rider is very important and I don't think I would enjoy riding as much if I wasn't able to spend a lot of time with my horse just taking care of him.

Absolutely huge believer myself, in being able to communicate with all animals! I have had various communicators read my animals, Lauren Bode being one of them. I was recently given an excellent gift for Christmas by mys husband (a skeptic, himself) of the book Straight From The Horse's Mouth....I have already practiced a couple things....wow!!

I think some people inately have a horse sense that is the precursor to developing some very personal relationships with horses...I feel I have this and have had special relationships with all the horses that have crossed my path over the years....not everyone 'gets' it.....I don't talk about it much because of this...I just enjoy quietly....

i believe we can communicate with horses. you just have to be listening/aware and you can ready them like a book. And like the horses, you need to listen to your instinct/gut. great topic!

Kim you sound as if you really do know your horse. I once worked in a yard where one the boys (horse) would hear my car and be looking out of his box when I walked round the corner. (It wasn't because he was expecting a treat - I don't do that bad habit!). One day he wasn't looking, so I went straight to his box. He was laying down, a bit damp, got up and laid down again. I watched for a short while then called the vet. Upshot is had mild colic. The vet dealt with it then asked how I knew something was wrong so early on. When I told him he was very pleased that I KNEW my boy and saved him any more pain. The next day he was back to looking over the door when I got there. Where we get this special bond from I don't know. The yard I'm at currently has a very special, loving, selective trustworthy brood mare. The last two years I have told the owner what sex the foal is going to be when it is born. He has looked at me as if I was from another planet. But guess what! I've been right. I can't explain how who or what that is the strange thing.
