Late in Life Beginning Rider - Part 2

When I was thinking about what to write in my blog this week, I was thinking I should write something profound, life changing etc. But no, I think I will write about underwear! It is at this point that all you men can log out since this will be much more information than you really want to know.

When I wrote my first blog, one of my recommendations was to have the right equipment. We all have dreams of the perfect saddle - butter soft, draping flawlessly over your horse and cradling you like a loving mother. But the most comfortable saddle in the world does you no good if your nickers are migrating north while your tush is settling south and your breasts keep trotting long after your horse has come to a complete halt.

As a late in life rider, I have succumbed to nature's most evil force.... gravity. Perky is no longer used in the vocabulary to describe parts of my body. I think more and more of one of my mother's favorite jokes. -A man went into a shop to buy his wife some lingerie. When the clerk asked for his wife's size, the man was at a loss. Used to clueless husbands, the clerk asked whether his wife was built like lemons, oranges or grapefruits. He paused a moment and said... more like Spaniel's ears. OK the last man, who didn't heed my warning is now offline.

While I have solved the lower half of my wardrobe by wearing "Brigitte Jones" underwear (who was the sadist who designed thongs anyways) I am looking for the elusive bra that will stop the jiggle without stopping my heart. I am not prepared to go the route of vet wrap or the universal tool - Duct Tape. I am on my second or third sports bra. I have to warn my instructor that sometimes when she says "Breath" I can only gasp "Can't".

This topic was covered on one of the Carriage Driving Lists. Someone mentioned a bra called "The Iron Maiden". Now that sounds like my kind of bra.

I guess I wrote about something profound after all.

She was a rather large woman and one scene was her trying to decide whether to wear sensible full underwear or sexy underwear. She opted for the sensible and her "boyfriend" declared that they were the LARGEST underwear he had ever seen. What I mean by Brigette Jones underwear is full leg and full waist underwear in cotton. You know stuff your mom would like you to wear. L

I'm not too worried about the top half, don't have a lot to bounce, but finally bought some nice breeches and riding tights, but whoa, they are much too revealing in the most revealing place, actually a little obscene. It's fine if you never have to get off your horse especially in front of a male instructor, but that could happen. I've tried tight fitting panty hose underneath, but hey this is Florida, 95+ degrees and hard enough to dress and tack up. Help, I want to look good but not scare! Lark

Comment by Ferrous on June 9, 2010 at 12:31pm: I like the 'Enell Sport Bra' for riding (and other high impact sports). It is definitely no bounce, it is made of a moisture wicking fabric, and it has comfortable straps that don't slip. It also has a front closure, so it's easy to get into... and out of even when you are drenched after a long ride on a hot day (or have had your coach and/or horse make you work really hard! *lol*). I wish that I discovered this bra years ago. It does have to fit snug, but it is way more comfortable than the common but awful compression-only bras... those ones may as well just be duct tape. ;)
