Everyone looks content and rested tonight. Kitty has quite the appetite. Maybe tomorrow night she will display more signs.

I never thought about worrying about an impaction but I wondered how good an idea it was more from the angle of "mama" getting so ticked off she hurt her baby. She did nip her once last night when she had put up with about 1/2 an hour of tail chewing and just constant harassment baby ran as long as her teeth were bare stopped for a minute and then went right back to bugging her. She just looked bored. Full of energy and not liking mom just eating. I have never seen a horse use her hoofs like this before.

Heather we had a mare and her foal chewed on her tail. We used tobasco sauce on a washcloth to put a light coating from the middle to the lower end of the tail. Baby quit that day and never chewed it again. The only other solution is a tail bag but that restricts Moms swishing off flys and bugs.

Hmmm I worry if Chiquita is eating Temptations tail.  I have heard of babies needing colic surgery for impactions.  We've never had one actually do it.  Vet will be out Thursday to do 2 ultrasounds, well two horses and one dog that found us.  Anyone need a beautiful and super sweet chocolate lab???  Anyway, I will ask her about this then.

AAAHHHH Kitty. So perfect sleeping flat out in the sun. Not a nervous mare. Makes me envy her peace, sleeping in the sun.

Temptation is being surprisingly patient. It seem Chiquita has developed a fascination with her mothers tail. More specifically she is standing and chewing on it. When mother moves forward to eat she moves too and in between she puts her hoofs up to try and hold it still. Funny for me but it has to pull at least a little. She pulls at it so you can see strands of it pulling thropugh her teeth at times. Anyway if she has a black eye in the morning we will all know why. LOL

Kitty is huge! No wonder she's crabby.

I am too and yes Heather if the "armchair " horse breeders can get a little impatient you can do it more because you have to deal with it close up. Decice what interventions if any to take, How far to push checking her and just put up with looking after them all.And yes I love chiquit6a's antics. Watched her and he mom (suddenly young again) run the first day they got to go out into the bigger fence.

I'm just thoroughly enjoying watching little Chiquita 'The roving Dervish' fly around on those new little legs of hers. Especially when she furiously digs at something like a Jack Russel, then jumps straight up and flys away at top speed.
