American Pharoah Cruises in the Haskell

In his first outing since pulling off the first Triple Crown in 37 years, American Pharoah romped to victory in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park this afternoon.

Under a hand ride from Victor Espinoza, he stalked the leader Competitive Edge until heading into the far turn.  Espinoza took him to the lead and then let him play in the final furlong.  Keen Ice got up for second, 2-1/4 lengths behind, while Upstart took third and Competitive Edge held on to fourth.

Speculation now focuses on where trainer Bob Baffert and owner Ahmed Zayat will point him for his next start.  Options could be the Travers at Saratoga or, as reported in the DRF, the Pacific Classic at Del Mar.
