MADNESS

A friend sent this in an email the other day, and it really tickled me: Why do I like horses? I reckon I must be mad. My mother wasn't horsey - And neither was my dad. But the madness hit me early – and it hit me like a curse. And I've never gotten better. In fact…I've gotten worse. My stables are immaculate. My house is like a hovel. Last year for my birthday - I got a brand new shovel. I hardly read a paper - but I know who's sold their horse And I wouldn't watch the news – unless Mr. Ed… CONTINUE

Also, see what works for you with the eyebeams. You may find that sending the beams out to the horizon gives you perspective or a good feeling that you can use anytime. Or that looking at the finger and adding a noise gives you the push, that you might need on a certain day. But at the begiing pracitce them in the order that I gave them. finger, wall, building and horizon. They will strengthen an inner battery and will. Enjoy!

The eyebeam exercise is best done during the day, not neccessarily at the barn, but more like a psychological exercise done each day. The more you practice this the more it will build up something in you that automatically will begin to work when you need it, for instance when you are competing. You should begin to notice a difference when you do it on a regular basis. (Have you tried my counting exercises that I talk about in one of my videos? They are quite helpful). Yes fears, doubts, stuff does creep up in all of us. Sometimes drawing helps us access the characters inside that might be silently creating havoc. This helps us gain awareness of what exactly is happening in our inner world. Maybe drawing could be helpful to you. Keep up the good work and dont hesitate to let me know how you are doing with your riding, light beams etc.. Take care, and give a good hug to your horse.

I dont know how much space I have to write, but here goes. First, thank you for your information. You are clearly a devoted rider and you and your horse look great. For competing, you want to make sure you have every little detail taken care of. Go over your moves over and over again, both physically and in your imagination with visualizing everything. The more you have this in your "bones" the more confidence you will have and the more you will be able to "let go" during the competition and use some of your own personal "pizazz." Some riders write down exactly what they will be doing the day of the show to the minute. What techniques have you been using? I dont know if you have psychological junk that gets in the way, but if so, tell the junk to stay at home. Put it in a chair and go to the competition without it. Instead of the goal of having pizazz throughout the entire competition perhaps start with one particualr move that you feel confident with. Make small goals of achievement. There are other tools that I can give you as well. I have certain eye exercises that help charge your battery and focuss you. These may be good for you. Let me know if you want these, and somehow I will try to get them to you. But start with this... Imagine you are sending light beams out from your eyes. Make it strong but gentle. don't strain. Turn these beams on... and then off. ( This is best to do standing at first) This is about turing yourself on and off. Feel the difference between on and off. All performers use the (on mode), and it is quite helpful. If this is difficult for you, try adding a "PSHHH" noise. If you can,,, add to this exercise by keeping your light beams on and look at your index finger which you will hold infront of your head about 8 to 12 inches out. Send the beams out to your finger. Then put the finger down and imagine sending the beams to the wall, then later to an imaginary building infront of you,(any building is fine) and then finally out to the horizon in front of you. Any horizon image that you choose would be fine. This strengthens your inner battery and will give you some spark. These eye exercises are best done daily as they will build something up inside you, and will help balance and focus you. That may help. Let me know if this is understandable in this email. It may be difficult to understand in writing. Dont hesitate to let me know specifically what is happening, what works and what does not. I hope this is helpful to you, and that it makes some sense, via the writing. Enjoy your riding!
Best wishes, Karen

Hi Wanderer. Thank you for your question. My schedule is quite busy during this week, but I would be happy to address your question during this weekend if that is fine with you. Could you tell me how long you have been competing for, and any other information that you think would be helpful to me. I look forward to corresponding with you in a few days. Take care.

Oh they look so much alike!! So how is it that you also have a pet pig? I once heard a long time ago that horses are afraid of pigs. Is that true?

Donnie is a Hanoverian gelding rising 12 yrs. He is a Donnerhall son and his mother is by Raphael. He is such a good boy! We train in dressage and do lots of hacking through the forest. We do a bit of jumping as well. I'm sure he would like to do more, but I am only comfortable jumping as high as my knee!! Do you have a horse?

That's so interesting. In Canada I sometimes see them for sale in pet shops, but I have always thought they should be left in the wild. p.s. Glad to meet someone from so far away!
