I'm 49 years old and grew up on a hill country farm in New Zealand, riding horses as often as I could. Dad would leave sheep or cattle to be moved so my sister and I could do it after school or on the weekends. I had a big break from horses but now have a wee bit of land so am lucky enough to have them in my life again. I grew up "normal", going to pony club etc, but have now found Parelli Natural Horsemanship and the answers to why I found some things so difficult back then!!
I am having so much more fun now that the relationship between myself and my horses is the most important thing, and I wish I'd known this stuff when I was a kid. I feel so much safer and confident now that I have more knowledge about horse psychology and how to "read" the body language so that I know how to respond.
Can't even imagine how much fun I'm going to have when I learn more!
Currently have a rising three year old home bred filly, Aurelia, and a six year old Miniature Horse gelding, Pippin. Aurelia and I are playing in Level 3 of Parelli, and Pippin and I are having fun trotting about the neighbourhood in his wee gig.
My current goal is to pass Level 3 Online and Liberty savvys of Parelli Natural Horsemanship prior to sending Aurelia to Russell Higgins (4 star Parelli Instructor) to be started under saddle late next year (as a rising four year old).
Getting my riding skills back up by riding Parelli friends' horses, so I'm ready to carry on with Aurelia next year. I used to have her dam (Bonnie, a Kaimanawa mare) and rode her, but had to make a choice once Aurelia was weaned as I can't afford three horses. Bonnie is now under the care of a friend and is having a great life.
Welcome to Barnmice! I happened to spot Aurelia while I was looking thru some of the photos here on Barnmice. If I hadn't seen her, it might have been a while before we crossed paths. So the cute little photo of the filly with her head betwen her legs is yours. Such a cute shot.

Not many Parelli fans here. My experience anyway.
