We caught a spammer on site this morning and banned them within minutes of their arrival. Many of you will have gotten a message from them which now no longer appears on your page (it was about how to make quick money). When you clicked on the link on your home email, there was no landing page because we deleted all of that person's content.
We take spam very seriously and are vigilant about banning spammers within an hour, sometimes within minutes after they sign in here. We also automatically ban certain email addresses as a precaution.
Unfortunately, once a spam post has been made, although we delete it on our end, we are unable to take back the email notice that has automatically been sent to your home email. If you want, you can go to your Settings, then click on Mail and select the option not to receive a notice when someone posts a message for you. As we are so quick to ban spammers, you won't ever know if a spammer sent you a message. We would only suggest doing this if you are really inconvenienced, as you will also not get a notice if a legitimate member messages you.
We track spammers about every six weeks, usually on Sundays.
