A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
My life with horses began in Indio, California in the 1940s. Riding alone in the desert as a child, I nurtured an intuitive bond with horses.

In the beginning of what would become a lifelong passion for developing innovative horse training methods created from my interactive studies with wild horses, I spent three summers of her childhood gradually becoming accepted into a community of wild horses culminating in me riding the lead mare of the herd, bareback and without bridle.

As a junior rider my interest led to training and showing in both English and Western divisions. My desire to create a championship performance from the willing spirit of the horse led me on a unique quest to gain knowledge of natural wild horse behavior and communication systems.

From my studies of wild horses, I formulated my own system of relating to horses I call The Carolyn Resnick Method and which I truly believe is the foundation for all equestrian pursuits.

My formal introduction to the wider equine community began in the early 1970s from my ranch, Stonehenge Arabians/Dances With Horses, a successful training and Arabian breeding center in Sonoma, California.

I subsequently toured the United States for several years, giving clinics and exhibitions on my Method before retiring from the breeding and touring businesses when I moved to my current ranch in Escondido, California, from where I continue to teach.

I also serve on the advisory board of Return To Freedom American Wild Horse Sanctuary in Lompoc, California

Training a Stubborn Horse!

This question comes from Melissa in Indiana and is typical of ones like this that I receive on a regular basis. Her situation involves a horse that is just too bossy! Perhaps this sounds familiar to you too? Melissa writes:

I have a 4.5 year old gelding quarter mix I’ve had…

Simple Things Can Work Wonders

Sometimes the simple things work wonders with horses. This is another story I want to share with you about how I caught a horse that was uncatchable. It was during my first job in La Jolla, California where I was hired to handle a large training center of hunters and jumpers. What they like to do in some of these training centers is to play a little joke on you on the first day that you arrive. It’s a way of breaking ice and getting to know… Continue

Change the Frame of a Horses Mind to Overcome Resistance

The story I’m about to share with you will be practical information for those of you who really know how to use the Waterhole Rituals ™and who have trained a few horses with them. For those of you that haven’t, let it be “food for thought” for the future as you grow as horsemen and women. I want people to think about what is going on in their horse’s mind. No one should try the strategy I am going to share with you unless they…

Getting a Horse Present and Connected to Overcome Resistance

Last week I gave a lesson to a student of mine, Stephanie, who has a Welsh Cobmare that she has been driving and riding. The horse is very fearful and so shehad started doing the Uberstreichen Exercises and working on getting hercomfortable in her territory.

The problem I noticed with this mare was that although she was doing well withthe Waterhole Rituals™, when she was brought to the barn, she did not want…
