I'm 25 years old and have been riding since I was eight. I was fortunate enough to buy the lovely horse I own now (Bella) five years ago. She is seven. Just like everyone else on this site I am horse crazy and can't imagine a day going by without spending time with my horse.
Katieeee! i decided to take your advice and join barnmice..its sweet :) I had such a good weekend at the royal.. i cant wait until next year already. hope everythings good with you.. we need to hang out sooooon! ♥
Hi Katie! nice to 'meet' you!!! your mare looks brilliant...is the height of the fences having any impact on her rushing???? when Charlotte started doing that, we backed off lines...went back to a single jump in the middle of the arena and just went over and over it as it went up and up...we found as it went up she started rushing...like the height was suddenly intimidating her somehow and she thought she could make it up with more speed. So we dropped it back down alittle until there was no rush, worked at that height, then raised it alittle until there was no rush at that height, etc...then we added another fence and practiced the same thing over and over until she stopped worrying about that one. Took a few weeks of it but after a few weeks? a 4 fence line didn't have her freaked anymore. How is your season going??
Hi Katie, Glad to hear the jumping is going better. I just took a look at the pictures on your site and noticed one other thing that you can do to improve your mare's rushing. You are just a bit ahead of your mare, with your seat, in your jumping position. Keep your seat bones centered in the middle of the saddle even when you are in your forward seat/two point position while over the fence. Think of pushing your hips back towards the cantle a little if you have to. This will keep your core muscles (abdominals and lower back muscles) "holding" your balance AND help you to ask your mare to 'wait' (with a gentle closing of the fingers) until the base of the fence to jump.
