A horse has been rescued from quicksand-like mud on a beach in Australia.
Nicole Graham and her daughter were riding along Avalon beach in Geelong, southwest of Melbourne, when their horse Astro began to sink.
Ms Graham stayed with the 17-year-old animal while her young daughter Paris called for help.
"We were just having a leisurely stroll because it's been such a hot few days... walking in about 30cm (12in) of water, and then one of the horses sank and then the other horse just sank really deeply," she said.
"Paris was able to get her white pony out straight away but the big horse was too deep in the quick sand to get out."
After sedating the animal, rescue workers used a sling and a tractor to pull him very slowly from the mud.
Despite the three-and-a-half-hour ordeal, Astro escaped with only bruising, leaving one very relieved owner.
