Segunda Vida Equine Rescue

Segunda Vida Equine Rescue is York Region's only registered non-profit Equine Rescue.

Our Mission:

To provide a loving, safe and healthy environment and to protect and provide for abused, neglected, starved, injured and abandoned equines as well as special needs horses and to provide them with proper care and rehabilitation time if needed and successfully place them in forever homes with loving and caring families.

To provide all essential care and to ensure a second opportunity and quality of life.

We will continue to be the spoken voice for our silent equine partners who have suffered the horrendous fate of slaughter or whose journey have them headed in a direction with no hope for change.

What We Do:

Every year there are thoursands of horses that suffer from physical and psychological abuse and neglect. These equines need immediate protection.

It is our sincere goal to help as many horses as possible to have the safe, happy Second Life that they deserve in new forever homes, after years of devotion and loyal service to teh humans who ised them for showing, racing or pleasure riding. We are a compassionate group of individuals, dedicated to rescuing as many horses as possible from slaughter, neglect, abuse and to find them permanent loving homes for them when possible.

Every penny goes towards the horses for feed, hay, supplements, medical care, and othe rnecessities. There will be no tomorrow for many unwanted horses, however with your help we can save many that otherwise would perish.

We are a group of horse lovers, determined to make a difference for as many horses as feasibly possible. Sometimes this task seems insurmountable and overwhelming, but we are inspired when we touch, hear and see the horses enjoying their safe environment - as every equine deserves.

YOGI & BOO BOO - Standardbred Yearling Colts Available for Adoption

YOGI & BOO BOO are the product of 'Nurse Mares', where horses are bred so that they can produce milk and provide their milk to other more well-bred foals while their foals are weaned too early and given up or disposed of.

BOO BOO -  is a 2-year old Standardbred cross colt. He is a solid bay with no markings and approximately 14.3 hh.
He was rescued from auction in the summer of 2012 with his friend and paddock mate Yogi.
Boo Boo is on the small size and should mature to a medium/large pony height, it is believed that being weaned too early as well as being starved while in utero are contributing factors to his size and weight.
He currently lives outside 24/7 with a small herd of cows, a stallion and a couple of colts and geldings.
Boo Boo is an absolute love bug and loves attention. Boo Boo would do best with a stall in the winter months and some grain but is an easy keeper.
Boo Boo and Yogi have been together since they went through auction and we would love to see them adopted together, but we understand that may not be financially suitable for all adopters. We just want a loving home for Boo Boo where he will get the love and care he so desperately needs and should have received as a baby.

YOGI -  is a 2-year old Standardbred colt. He is a bay with two white hind socks and is approximately 15hh.
He was rescued from auction in the summer of 2012 with his friend and paddock mate Boo Boo.
Yogi has a small blind spot in his right eye which does not hinder him in anyway.
He currently lives outside 24/7 with a small herd of cows, a stallion and a couple of colts and geldings.
Yogi loves attention and is the first to come up to you for some loving and he follows you around just wanting some affection. Yogi is an easy keeper.

Most of our Rescue horses come with an option of a free lease trial for one month. If you are interested in free lease or fostering please contact the Rescue and find out how you can help us give another equine a Second Chance.

After the successful completion and approval of an adoption application, the horses will be micro chipped and come with an adoption contract.
