A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
Not much to tell really. :) I live on a small property about 50 kms north of Melbourne and currently own approx. 25 horses - Arabians & Thoroughbreds for the most part.
My Arabian program aims to breed well conformed, sane, athletic Arabians suitable for endurance competition and I hope to be back riding in that field soon. Thoroughbred racing is my other interest and I breed the horses I race.
As the owner of a (very) small stud (3 stallions) I do all of the usual stuff - covering mares, foaling them down, handling / training foals & youngsters prior to their being broken to saddle then doing the pre-training /slow work before their 'real' work begins.

Do you have any pets?
2 dogs (a kelpie & a Rhodesian Ridgeback) 1 Abby cat, sundry chickens (bantams & full-size) and one slightly manic / VERY funny rooster

    Hi,
I am also friends with Linda. I would love to know more about endurance. Are you part of a group? How far do you you normally ride? I understand the Arabians are really super in that discipline. I'll post this as a discussion, and that way I can learn more (I ride dressage, and do lots of trail riding with my horse, but not quite the same!)

Welcome to Barn Mice Jo-Anne! I think you will be the first, furthest member that they have! They are ALL friendly, nice people on this board so feel comfortable to chat...and check out those videos! You will find ME on a few of them as well!!! LOL! I got caught off guard and did them off the top of my head - spur of the moment! I notice I say 'um' quite a bit ;0)

    Hi Jo,
I guess you have already gone to bed and woken up on Thurs! It's 10:21 here, so I'm a bit behind you. I was thinking after reading your messages that I would very much like a group of endurance riders from Australia to come on board the site, maybe even start an endurance group that other barnmice members could join. Since you are the ONLY person I know who lives in Australia, perhaps you might invite some of your friends to join? My goal is to really create a world-wide community (yes I am the site creator!) that feels like your own home barn, filled with friends you would never be able to otherwise meet. And I am always looking for people who can help contribute to the positive environment that I have envisioned.

On the endurance note, I have to say that in the summer, I spend a lot of my time with my horse in the woods, just walking along. Not very challenging in terms of distance or terrain, but I have to say that it is one of the most utterly peaceful and stress-free things I have found. Just me and my good boy.

"but I have to say that it is one of the most utterly peaceful and stress-free things I have found. Just me and my good boy."
And isn't that the truth! :) I like the competitive side of riding but since I've been sidelined I've realised what I miss most are those early morning quiet rides when you and your horse 'own' the bush. Nothing quite like getting the work part of your ride out of the way then coming home 'on the buckle' .
Thanks for giving me a reason to think of it again. :)

LOL. If I don't get off to bed at a "civilised" hour &/or find something interesting online I'll still be there right about the time I should be thinking about getting out of bed. A great chewer of time the internet. :)
