Thanks Geoff....Tori keeps bucking everytime mum or me askes for a canter, mum thinks she has a sore back, but when she's in the paddock she canters around no problem!!!! Do you think she is actually sore or just taking the pitty?
hahaha no, i have a weird story about that 'swine flu'!!
did you know, that the asians have an animal to 'symbolise' each year, and the year of the bird flu, it was the year of the bird, the year of the horse there was the equine influenze, and this year its the year of the pig!! so thats something for us to all think about isnt it!! lol.
Yeah we're all pretty good down here, things are getting a bit stressful, but hey, you know how it is.
yeah ive got one lady that emailed me for her daughter, they sound really interested and they seem to be lovely people. her daughter is a tall 13 year old and shes lost heaps of confidence from bad falls, and they want a horse for her thats big enough, but one that she can go for trails and ride around on to get her confidence back, and then she wants to get into some lower level eventing and pony/riding club. SO yeah i think they sounds pretty good. They must be interested because they're going to come all the way down from One Tree Hill!
Oh is he? im sure he'll sell quick, hes a magnificent creature Lurch is (:
Yeah you told me when we talked on the phone last, thats insane.
The naughty fella.
By the way, i noticed you changed your website a bit. it looks heaps good! Adele and i like the part you wrote about Sadie, very sweet.

P.S. send my love to the family (:
P.S. It is the saddle Andrea used for the school she went to on Tori! the same saddle..
P.S.S. I would but if i want to come for a lesson as well....i dont have a double float....=(
Hi Geoff, It's been a while!
Gorgeous Canadian weather here - lots of hacking mixed in with our regular dressage work. Also, adding a few tiny fences into the mix. No higher than my knee!
Ohhhh My Gosh!!!
I have to tell you ... I was just over having a wee nosey through your "Lanyon Riding Center" website .... (very nice by the way, easy to navigate .. clear / insightful information, ... erm ... Just wondering … do you suppose it would be ok for me to come over ... and take over living in your Lanyon Weekender??? …*laughing* …)
Anyway ……. Reading about Sadie …. bet I cried a bucketful of tears!!
What a Wonderful Story!!
… and I just watched a YouTube of YOU jumping on her from behind ..
Shame on ya!!! …. Ya big galoot you!!!

What a lovely fun “glimpse” of what the Riding Center must be like!!

...PS ... just saw that note about "Lucy" .. sorry to hear :(
Hi geoffrey, im failry new on here, but ive been reading some of your posts and they caught my eye! ive seen that you're from Australia, which may explain your knowledge of equitation science and the use of learning theory! I am aware of it through the study of psychology, written work of Andrew McLean and my time at university. Hope to see you around on here provoking thoughtful, and more importantly, education debate,
I just took a look at your web site and I just got such great feelings about it. It looks like a really great place for body and soul of people and equines. Congratulations on making the world a better place!

Hi Geoffrey - we've had torrential rains here for the past few days, so not much has been accomplished. I'll definitely keep you posted though. I think the rain should be stopping in a couple days (fingers crossed). Thanks for asking!
Hi Geoffrey, this is what I did with Ben this afternoon in between rain showers! I brought him in the from the paddock (took a few minutes to get him to allow me to put the halter on); we worked on flexion on both sides, dropping his head, turning on the forehand, and standing still when I dropped the lead line. He was great! My other horse was calling him, but he was focused on me. It built up my confidence again which I've been needing. My plan is to do this a few more times over the next few days, then get back into lunging him. I'm really wanting to back him, but I don't feel 100% sure enough.
By Stop and Go exercises, do you mean get him to move his feet when I want and not move his feet unless I ask him? Yesterday what I did was I'd make him stop then I'd face him and put up my hand (palm facing towards his face) and say ho. Then I'd back up to the end of the lead line and would not allow him to move until I asked him to come to me. Is that the kind of thing you mean?
Hello Geoffrey,
Yesterday I worked with Ben (groundwork) with his saddle on. I worked on stop and go. I was able to drop the lead line on the ground and have him stand in one place as I walked around him (both directions). We worked on flexion - he did great. We worked on backing up.... great at first then he was tossing his head and it took more pressure to get him to move. I'm wondering if maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist because I'll work with Ben, he'll do great, but then if he misses one thing I feel that the training is a failure. Stupid. I've gotta work on that....
Anyway, this afternoon I'll work with him again and let you know how it goes.
Hi Geoffrey ( I just wrote you a comment, but it disappeared ). I'll do it again. Yep, it's me again (sorry).
Today it took me awhile (about 25 tries) to catch Ben. He shares an acre paddock with my other horse Hank. When I go to get Ben, I walk in the paddock in a round about way (not directly to him), but when I get close he walks away and goes to Hank. He moves around Hank as I move around to get him. Finally, he'll stop and let me halter him with no problem. I'm thinking of separating the two horses hoping that if he doesn't have Hank to rely on, he'll be easier to catch.(?)
Anyway, our schooling session was fantastic today. I saddled him up and schooled him in a different area of our property to see if he would listen to me and he did. We worked on flexion, stop and go, and I dropped the lead line, asked him to whoa, and not only was I able to walk around him, but to also run around him without him moving. I was very pleased.
I'm getting closer to feeling like we're catching up to where we left off earlier this summer! Yayyyy.
Wishing You Stardust And Moonbeams and Dreams Come True
On this special day that celebrates you!
Brightest Most Sincere Birthday Wishes Geoffrey!!

I would come this Saturday, but mum has this instructers day, you know to get a qualifaction to be an instructer at G.D.P.C. And i cant come on Sunday because i have G.D.P.C!I dont know about next week. I will talk to mum. It's just been more than full on......By the way i went to a show ( .G.D.P.D. ) and i got 2 champs, 1 reserve, 3 blues and these are for novelties i got a 2nd and a 3rd. For the school in Sept, will we be riding at your place? I miss jumping a reasonable height. I havent jumped high for ages.
do ya know what time you are on at the R.A.S? Or just the date? And you know i will be the loudst one cheering for you? hahaha. i'm pretty loud...... Who is riding in the section 4's??
Hi Geoffrey - haven't done much with Ben in the past week (we had a death in the family - an auntie of mine). Anyway, really enjoyed your photos! But, I do want to tell you that I'm feeling much much better about Ben... I think we may have (or I have) gotten past our little tiff or whatever it was. I feel more joined with him again. Yayyy. Yeah I had heard about pea size but never marble size whatever it is. Poor guy. Have fun at the show...............
omg! that has to be like 1.05m! I sent my form in today. so you should get it. Unfortunatly, i cant afford to get in this year, i either go to the R.A.S or your Riding school. I decided to go to your Riding School because i enjoy that a hella alot beter. i was very disapointed to not see you ride ): But i just cant afford it. ( tear ) and i wanted to be your strapper. ),:
Anyone have advice on how to start a young horse to jump and someone who has never jumped in their life? My horse is only 1 1/2 years old and i am only 18.
Yes you did spell it right. And i am staying the 2 nights (:
Yay Alyssa is going! I'm pretty sure Andrea is too, will we sleep at the farm or at the house? Cos i'm sure my 2 best mates ( Alyssa and Andrea ) are staying too. Well i know Alyssa is going, and i'm sure Renee said that she'll take Andrea down and Andrea will sleep as well. I know it's probaly going to be in late. I will check. (:
LmaoOOOOooo ... pfffftttttttt ... communication skills .... if talking folk into a complete coma is a skill ... erm ... yeah .. suppose I've got it ;-)
Peyote ... what do you THINK it is Geoffrey?? .. *nod nod .. nudge .. wink* ... LOL :)
OOOPS, sorry, it's really late, after work and beyond bedtime. I clicked the wrong United, it's UK not UAE, I never go anywhere so I have only seen photo's from UAE. Liked your pictures Geoffrey, dare not spend money on funding flickr photo hosting for the moment, more spices for horses and me required, turmeric and cinnamon, so I shall read this site for now and participate more when I get my pictures working again.
Thanks for saying Hi. It was a note on www.artofnaturaldressage.com that pointed out this forum as a place of interest. Love Susie xx
I know i cant jump him right now but i was just trying to get a jump start on jumping. But it would be okay to start him on ground poles and then just wait til he is four to jump him.. But thanls so much for the advice.
Hi Geoffrey, although originally from England, I now live in Wales. In beautiful Anglesey, actually - not sure if you know it, it's an island off the coast of North Wales, joined to the mainland by two bridges, but still an island. It has beautiful beaches and is very rural. We live in the most Northerly village in Wales and it's also about as far West as you can go without being in Ireland! In fact Dublin is our closest city, except that 60 miles of water is in the way. :-)
Yeah, it's pretty hilarious as people struggle with the language barrier! Who says we all speak English? I am planning to learn Welsh this year ... that will be fun! :-)
Well I am up on his back just walking him right now. I am hopin by next summer I will be able to show him in walk trot. And his ground work is gettin better all the time. Everytime I work him, he does everything better and better.... but I think I am pushing him a little fast right now by being on his back walking around... but my boyfriends mom said to just walk him and by this winter or spring I should be trotting him around by myself..... If not soon.
Thanks, the reason me and Kohrn work so well together is because shortly after he was weaned he put a hole in his throat and I spend hours upon hours in his stall feeding him and talking to him and being there to show him everything was going to be okay. And after he got better I started working with him a little everyday and when I started dating my boyfriend he gave him to me for my birthday. So since then I have been working him everyday. Me and Kohrn have a special bond that no one can take away from us and I am hoping that it will come in handy when I start more advance work with him later on.
Hey Geoffrey!
Have you read William Micklem's blog?! You are now officially famous and crowned the King of Barnmice Communication!
I think I'm gonna be careful what I put on the discussions from now on - I don't fancy my words coming back to bite me on the bum in someone else's blog!
Geoff! How's it going? I take it from that lovely pic of Nick that Lochie is back to a normal, non psycho child eating pony? Heehee
How did the RAS go? Was Itchy a gooood boy? I tell you what, better watch out when I'm over next - spent the weekend at at Yarrambat Horse Trials - Dressage and SJ were both write offs - couldn't believe his behaviour, norty boy, he was a brat! But he made up for the lot with an absolutely cracking XC, taking jumps out of a gallop stride, listening to the 'balance, come back'....amazing. Didn't even hesitate at his bogey fence - the ditch, went straight over. Will have to buy a couple of the pics and put them up.
How's the rest of the gang?
Yes, he was being a complete turd really, it was windy (blowing sand in his face) for the dressage, so a bit benefit of the doubt, but the SJ, I may as well have just let him into the ring without me, for all that he was listening. He was watching the XC I reckon!
Good luck for the next one, let me know how the Orange monster goes :D
