In pursuit of a serious business career I set horses aside for nearly 2 decades, Now, I realize there’s a serious imbalance in my life and a sad empty longing in my soul that Only “Horses” can fill.
So I’m currently shopping for my New 4-legged best friend, and only just beginning to contemplate ALL the possible paths we might travel together.
Ok .. Update Time!!
Practical Magic Is finally ACTUALLY MINE!! :)
and an Extra ... totally un-looked for blessing-gift from the Great Spirit will be arriving along WITH Magic ... in the form of a 4 yr. old, bay, minimal spot, 16 hh, APHA mare "Valkyrie"
... *dancing* ... colour me an Exceptionally Happy Camper!!
hey:)
well i love the ferrets that we have owened they are soo full of energy and they jump arond its really funny! if u wont one u should get one coz there great!!
i rode casper on the weekend but he was soooooooo difucult!
i rode the mare that i exersise for some friends. she is such a sweet little thing! we went for a short trail ride down along the river on the tracks there it was sooo nice as she has never been there befor she was verry spookey aspessly at a fence that was all bushy with the odd bright wite string in it! we went down this steep hill bit witch led out into a pebble area and grass and the river flowing next to it. i decided to canter back up the hill and she loved it! she even threw in a buck. but we had to go after that because people came down on there motobikes and were riding quite close to us. i took her up to a friends propety witch was a quite a bit of a ride away. when we got there they were rounding up there cows so we did a bit of that witch was fun! but i didint notice the massive storm clouds that were brewing so i had to canter back in the rain! ha ha but party time was sooo good!
how was your weekend?

Wauw, that is such an uplifting comment you left me! Thank you for that!!! I don't have blog yet, no.........
I'm working hard to get my dreams come true! Horses are my life, and my passion.
And my ultimate goal is Grand Prix dressage, and compete Internationally one day :) And to have my own little lovely yard!
Nice to meet you!!! Love you profile picture, is that a Friesian or am I wrong??
Barbara... I'm proud of you for balancing your life & for fulfilling your spirit's love for horses... I took the same path as you and put my equine dreams on hold while I raised my little ones until they were old enough for me to enjoy horeses again.
Good luck in finding your dream companion. Be sure to follow your heart and feel the horses energy when choosing your horse. Be sure to pick a horse that has big expressive eyes and an endearing heart, you can't go wrong with choosing a horse that falls in love with you too! It's a magical experience... I'm sooo excited for you!!!
BTW, draft horses are so magestic, I owned a big Friesian, he was a joy (and quite a workout) to ride... it was an incredible feeling cantering in the wind... I miss him so much.... You'll have to let me know when you get your horse, post lots of pics I'd love to see him/her! =)
lol. okay.
Im just uploading some of my miniatures now but will put some of my dressage horses up too.
your horse in your avatar is stunning! friesian right? i hav a friesian mare too but she is leased out to a stud at the moment.
yea im fine thanks!
Aw... Barby, YOU are such a doll!!! I'd say we are definitely kindred spirits without question! =) If you're visualizing your perfect equinge partner by your side and seeing yourself in the barn grooming her, loving on her and training then she'll be in your life before you know it! How awesome is that!!!!
Thank you for your kind words.... I had to chuckle when I read that you're into energy work... of course you are!!! Here's my story of how I got my barn & Friesian in regards to using the Law the Attraction...
I'm a general contractor, I built our home in a new neighborhood, I live in a culd a sack. My back yard boarded some older homes at the time, I didn't really pay attention who lived there I just knew that was were I was supposed to build our home. Well, after moving in I realized that the house was a kind of half-way house with different interesting people coming and going... not exactly people I felt comfortable having as neighbors....
Well, I told my husband of my concerns regarding our young children living near that house... So we decided we would try to buy the property and tear down the house to build a barn. At the time the home wasn't for sale but each night I would look out my window and visualize my dream barn and my horses in my backyard... About a year later the home went into foreclosure and guess what? We bought it, tour it down and build our barn!!!! (yes, that's my barn in my pics.)
I did the same with my Friesian, I found a picture of the exact body type of Friesian I wanted and visualized it in my backyard every day... and I soon found my sweet Xavier... Unfortunately, I had to sell him when the economy dropped; I had a spec house and lost a lot of money... But I sold him to a sweet lady that is now one of my best friends and I still am blessed to see Xavier every week! He misses me dearly I'm afraid... but at least I can love on him often and he knows my spirit will always be with him. He was an extrememly powerful horse both in spirit and in body, I love him tons!
How awesome that we are very, very much alike in many ways... very cool!!! I'll looked at the beautiful mares you're considering... I'll have to take more time and really look at them to feel their energy... Have you owned a mare before? I have a mare and a gelding... I prefer geldings over mares, but mares are wonderful as well... As my dressage trainer says, "Mares you ask, geldings you tell and stallions you negociate..." That is soooo true!!!
Sorry for the novel... I'm soooooo grateful we've become friends! Thanks for making my day extra special!!! =)
My name is Kelly and thank you for welcoming me to Rusty riders. I think the group was such a great idea. So many people leave horseback riding but they always seem to come back even if it is after many years. How could we not?
I really love the Friesian in your picture! He's gorgeous! What is it about Friesians that make all the women swoon?! I am currently taking my Dressage lessons on a Friesian and am completely in love with him.
I wish you good luck with the horse search. Let me know if you do find the one you've been looking for.
Hi Barby
I think we need some blogs on reining in here. More content about the discipline would be extremely helpful. AND PICTURES!!!.. everyone loves pictures.
And I like you set horses aside for nearly a decade before I realized that life is too short to not live with them in my life.
thanks so much for you comment... Yes... that is the long awaited little miracle foal... his name is IN LIKE FLINT...thanks for looking around my web site and your complement... that means a lot... i have worked very hard... its a lifestyle not a job and am lucky to have such a great family and staff to support it all.... keep in touch... Ruth
Wow! What an unexpected, pleasant surprise on my birthday! Thank you! I am looking forward to riding my Tennessee Walker gelding this weekend---his specially-fitted Aussie stock saddle arrived yesterday, and I can't wait to try it out on him!
Thanks for the comment, not silly at all, we brought 6 cats with us from Zimbabwe - by air - at great expense, in 2004. Some would say that's silly!
All adjusted well, 3 regrettably now succumbed to old age, 3 surviving and we have been adopted by 2 more who were abandoned and found their way to us.
Hi Barbara. Thank you very much a warm welcome. Yes horse and equestrian themed jewelry. A great collection. Lots of fun combining the parts of my life. I hope to be posting soon.
Thanks Barb for your hilarious reply!! Yes I do have alot of "background" I can use for my poems. It was and is an ongoing drama in this family. I write about it in my poems. Hope you enjoy them and you keep "chucklin". That's a good thing as Martha would say!! LOL
I love love love warmbloods. And your sudden passion for the draft crosses is just that. There are soooo many to choose from. Take a look at the Percheron/TB crosses....they can be gorgeous and sweet but BIG. And I love the Big horses. My guy in the pic is 18hh. I've had him for 16 years and counting. Have fun shopping!
Well, we're *down* to 12 dogs (13, if you count the puppy), but it is a LOT less than the 50 we used to have !!! We ran dogsled tours for a few years. Eileen saw one of our first "runs", but luckily we improved !!! Thank you for the welcome !! It is nice to be here.
Yeah, at least he knows his rank, and the funny thing is, he does not seem to mind! I will post more pics soon.....there is just so little time!
Did you you choose a mount yet?
Feed small amounts, 4-6 times a day. I like to use Seminole Senior..any senior feed will do. It is palatable, easy to digest and lots of protein. Start with about a cup each feeding, gradually increasing every few days. Lots of good quality hay..t/a or alfalfa or similar. If really bad, we give supplements, like red cell. It is a good idea to have bloodwork done, that will help give an idea as to what sups to feed. Also a good idea to worm but hold off on vaccinations. Good luck!
haha thanks.
For once I found a nice hore related little 'community' thats easy to get around and everyone seems very friendly!
Oh and I was just looking through your photos the little baby is GORGEOUS!
I love drafts too. I wish I had room for one!
Yea that baby will deffinatley grow big! So shes about 3 months old.
wow i was thinking more like 8-9 months shes huge already!
My AQHA filly her daddy was 16.3 not too sure on momma but she is showing alot of height too she is 16.1-16.2 and only a three year old!
Hi Barbara, thanks for your comment Quantumsavvy is run by Shane and Meredith Ransley in Australia they studied NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP with Pat Parelli and have a fantastic web site www.quantumsavvy.com and a superb system you can learn with where ever you are I would not use any other system with my horses .I started --hate the word broke --Oshe whom you see in the picture myself and have nevr ridden her in a bit !!
Thanks for the comments on Oshe --she is very pretty and such a sweet horse --I will be posting some more photos of her soon .

Hi Barb: I have not had a chance to get out and try the trailer and truck as yet. Weather has been wet and the old man needs to take the time to work with me. Thanks for asking though! Barnmice is great but you never seem to run into someone near by where you live or ride. Gail.
Hi Barb: If you are an older rider and looking for a horse take a good look at the gaited breeds. I have a Rocky and he is beyond kind and has done a bit of dressage, eventing and trail riding. With or without a bit or a saddle. Gail.
Hi Barb,
Thanks for the compliment! Yes, I want my very own Spanish-Norman as well. But that will be a year or so down the road. I bred my Thoroughbred to a black Lusitano this year because we still have our herd sire Hercules (in the picture with me) and couldn't pass up one last foal by him before he is sold. I don't have a website yet, people keep bugging me to get one up and going so that the next project. It looks like you are having fun with your spooted draft anyway! Have a great 4th of July long weekend.
I miss the smell, sound and good workout a horse can give you. Once you're touched by them, I don't think it ever leaves you. I do know one thing, I would need a boost up getting in a saddle anymore, or ride an awful short pony. Glad to get to know you. I've met such wonderful horse friends on twitter that it makes miss the horses all the more.
No I am not currently in the market to buy one right now. I'm selling my house and really downsizing, becoming more mobile. I want to eventually do the "snowbird" thing. I keep my fingers in the horse market because of my biz and my love for them. How about you..what type of riding do you do and what kind of horse are you looking for?
Hey Barby
Writing something others would want to read is not all that hard. There are many many topics some for very beginners and others for more advanced people not to mention the different disciplines. Horse shopping is a HUGE topic with so many things everyone needs to think about while shopping for a new horse.. not to mention selling one.
Hello Barby,
Thank you for the welcome. I'm new to the site so I'm still trying to find my way around.
Do you know if there is a place where I can place a want ad? I'm looking for a very safe pony for a 5 year old. One on which she can begin her riding lessons and that is reasonably priced. Age doesn't matter but must be healthy.
Thanks for any help.
Hello Barby,
I can't thank you enough for your advice. A little correction. Emma is not my daughter. She is my granddaughter. She is is sweetest little girl who loves horses. In fact all that she plays with are her Breyer horses and barn. I started her riding last year and she's been hooked ever since. I have my own horse at a really friendly barn where my new pony would be welcome have a wonderful happy life...if I can only find the right pony.
I will follow your kind advice and go to the forums and see what happen.
Talk to you soon.
